A dog that alerts you everytime she smells smoke....Important
Okay first of all I love my Sasha so much....especially right now.
First of all a few months back the neighbors smoke from the fireplace made its way into our apartment (well it backed up into our apartment)
Before we could smell it Sasha was on the scene.
Well this is a little off topic but at the same time relates.
Our neighbors have started smoking right in front of our living room window....well they leave the lit cigarette buts in the dry brush but whats worse even with the window closed the smoke seems to seep in......and they are out there all the time.
Sasha has smelled it then jumped up on the edge of the couch (we keep the blinds closed so she isn't constantly barking at everyone who walks by) and she starts barking like crazy and that usually runs them off but they come back.
The problem is my asthma. You see my asthma is set off by cigarette smoke and its getting into our apartment.
Tonight I spent almost 3 hours at an Urgent Care clinic for an awful asthma attack that was smoke induced.
I'm still getting over it.
If it weren't for Sasha constantly scaring them off it would have been worse but is there anything we can do to stop this?
They are leaning against our window and smoking and flicking it in the bushes.
Its great their apartment doesn't smell like cigarette smoke but they shouldn't make ours.
Also I caught them twice....letting their dog poop and not cleaning it up infact they just scooted it under the bushes.
We have pictures of both the piles of dog poop and the cigarette butts (and the lit cigarette butts)
Do you think anything can be done. My breathing still is going to be out of whack for awhile.
I'm just grateful for Sasha she didn't let anybody smoke out there today.....and she wouldn't leave my side either.
Its been a long 24 hours.
But Sasha saw me through

Thats my little girl.
I wanted to add I don't normally allow barking at people or excessive barking but I think she did good this time

Call the police for one and file a complaint. They will write down your info, and what is going on. then they would need to contact the neighbors and explain to them that that will not continue. THEN if it happens again, call the police immediately.
It is illegal for them to do that, especially if it jeopardizes your health. It would be a good idea to get photographs catching them in the act, or setting up a hidden camera, I know you can get really cheap ones at like walmart.
If you can get visual proof of them doing this, with either video or photo, and they have been told by yourself and the police that they need to stop. there will be serious consequences.
dont take any crap from them. if you can prove that it was from their cigarette smoke that caused your attack and hospitalization, you could force them to pay the charges (if there were charges)
Talk to the police, and get aware of your rights, and what you should do when this continues.
good luck

Since we don't know exactly who it is and where they live wouldn't it best to go to apartment management first?
All we know is they have a small Chihuahua dog. And its several couples. Everyone it seems in our building smokes and they pick outside our unit to do it
its a blonde woman and her chihuahua. And a couple with a black lab mix of some sort.
And then this guy who has poker parties every other weekend (I caught one of his buddies peeing in the bushes)
And then all four families upstairs

My husband said he is going down to the office first thing in the morning to speak with them (under the advice of our lawyer....who is my uncle) and if they refuse to do anything about it he said we go to management with him. And if they don't do anything about it he said the least they can do for us is let us out of our lease.....because this smoke can potentially kill me

Go first to the owner and ask if smoking is allowed and tell about your asthma, or suggest for a place for smokers so others living in the apartment would share their smoke.
Good thing you got baby that could detect smokes for you, sometimes her bark could annoy smokers to they will keep distance.

I don't understand why people are so inconsiderate. You could try putting a no smoking sign up in your window maybe that would keep them from smoking in front of your window. Also you could ask them to smoke by their own apartment and if that doesn't work move on to step 3 and that would be call the cops to file a complaint or call the landlord and hopefully if you complain enough they will get evicted. I wish you the best of luck.
