Default My friends old dog.

My friends had to give up there dog cause of noise complaints (Or something like that), they gave it to up. Its currently 3 Years old (Human Years). I think she misses her old owners or something. Shes not really close to my family, and when I put her on my lap, her body just goes up and down from breathing and when i try petting its legs or head, it just flinches. and it sorta just sighs every 10 minutes. =/

does anyone know how long till itll get over the newness if ever?

Oh yeh - can ppl gimme some tips for me to get closer to my dog

It will take some time for the dog to trust you, talk calmly and pet the dog gently, in time the dog should come around. How different is your home vs the one he came from, are there more people etc. This takes time getting used to also.

it takes time. trust me. we have had timber for 5 weeks now and he is still shy around my daughter. he will let her pat her and stuff ,but reserved. I gave her a treat to give to him. that seems to help and the fact I hug her in the morning and after school so he knows she is safe. See , timber sees me as a pack leader and won't get close to some people without me hugging them and talking to them. then he sneaks over and sniffs them. usually with family only. friends he just lays there.

Timber was never in a house before and loves it now. matter of fact he is sleeping under the computer desk now. don't worry all cords are securely out of his sight.

just give it some time. try to play with him, use the same commands as the previous owners, find out about schedules perhaps that is what is throwing him off. keeping things the same for a dog of any age is helpful. feeding times, potty runs, exercise times(if able to keep them the same) will help tremendously.

keep us updated
