Default potty training

I have a question?

We got Oreo on Saturday. He is a Beagle terrier mix. The lady we got him from said he is house trained. However she said he doesn't really go to the door when he has to go. There day was like this: Wake up go outside and go potty. Leave for work and kids off to school. Oero went downstairs until she come home from work at 1pm. Then outside to go potty again. Back downstairs while she left for her sencond job. Everyone is home once school is out, then back outside to go potty. Would go outside when ever the kids did and did his thing then.

We have him now and his day is:
Get him off of my sons bed in the morning to go potty and does.
Feed the kids then I feed him. Wait about 30 minutes then outside and goes potty. Then back in the house it is now 8:30am I am off to work. Husband should be getting up by 10. He takes him out again when he gets up. Goes outside and does his thing SOMETIMES. Like today as soon as they got back inside he went potty in the house. I got home from work at 2:30pm took him outside. Nothing. Feed the kids dinner at 5:30pm then Oreo. About ten minutes after dinner he went into my living room and potty. When I tried to startler him he just looked at me and kept going. Took him outside. We have been outside since trying to get him to go poop. The kids have just brought the dog in. So we are watching him closly

Do we need to do the crate training again or what?

For it seems at times as soon as we come in that is when he goes. And we are outside for an hour or so.

Please any help. My hardwood floors are tired of getting peed on.

Many times when people say the dog is house trained it may actually be somewhat true. However, once in a new home everything gets revolutionized. Dogs do not generalize so a dog is in a new environment will need to adjust again before being back to house training as before.

I have adult dogs and I move homes a lot, and everytime they are in a new home they tend to have accidents in the house for the first few days.

I would start off by not letting this fellow in until he goes potty. You should train him to learn the ''go potty'' command. Every time you see him outdoors squatting to pee of poop say ''go potty'' or whatever word works for you. When he goes praise lavishly. In a week or two he may learn that every time you say ''go potty'' he will go. It works wonders, my dogs even go just a few drops just to make me happy.

I think the best thing to do, since he is having most accidents upon coming inside is not letting him in until he goes. I know this may be frustrating but it is the only way he can learn that outside is for business. Do not play games when outdoors and do not encourage anything fun, just let him sniff around and hopefully he will go sooner than later. This will teach him that outdoors is for business and then he is allowed inside only after he has done business. Hope this helps!

Yes that does help, thank you.

For since lastnight, before I went to bed I stayed outside with him until he went pee. WE came in went to bed. When my husband got home he took him out and he went again. Then this morning took him out and he went. Now we are doing the after breakfast feeding. He went poop then my son brought him back in. I told him he has to go pee so take him back out. He signed. Oh well it's not like he can use the toilet. Although that would be funny.

Thanks again.

Default Accidents in unfamiliar location

I agree with everything that Petra's Mom said. Great advice!

My dog Albert had had a similar problem when we moved to a new city. The first day at the new location he had an accident indoors. The same happened the first few times I took him with me to the pet store.

I have found with Albert and several other friends dogs that when some dogs are potty trained they learn not to pee indoors at THAT home/location and assume that anywhere else that is not in THAT home is ok to potty at. So their first few times at a new home or location they may have an accident. Since your dog has had accidents indoors at your home I would be sure that your dog does business before you go indoors at new locations that he is not yet familiar with to avoid the accidents altogether.

If he does have an accident just be sure that you immediately let them know that what they did was not acceptable (but don't scare the dog because it can make them release more due to fear) and immediately take them outside and tell him to "go potty" or whatever term you prefer to use.

When my dog Albert was still a pup I used the same technique that Petra's Mom talked about. When we went outside I would tell him "go potty" several times until he went. When he did go I would praise him by saying "Good boy, you went potty. etc." and sometimes rewarded him with a treat so that he would want to potty whenever I said the word.

Good luck!

I agree with everyone's advice. When you find your dog doing his business inside the house, just take him outside and no yelling for accident inside.

I think crate training is good way to try too because in general, dog does not go potty where they sleeps. As soon as dog is out from crate, you take him for potty and be outside until he does pee/poop.

If you had time for going walking, walking encourage bowel movement so,it is good thing to do too.

Palette did good on gottago doorbell for potty training. It is a bell that you usually can find at post office desk or customer service desk at store.Dog learns to hit the bell when she/he want to go potty. Then give treats when potty outside.Good thing about it is it is light weight and you can bring it with you when you visit your relatives, and all you need to do for your dog is to tell him where the bell is placed at. As long as dog knows where the usual bell is,they can tell you they need to go potty. After introducing the bell to my dog,she never do potty accident at my mother-in-law house.I like it a lot.
