Default New Baby and a couple of JRT's

Well my wife and I are going to have our first kid in Sept...

Do you guys/gals have any tips with the dogs. Our dogs love running around the house and 100 mph's. Sometimes they can hardly watch where they are going because they are moving so fast.

How did you guys introduce your new kid to your dogs?

hi there
both times while I was pregnant I let our dog rest her head on my bump Im sure she knew what it was. Then when I had the baby I made sure that when I came home from the hospital I didnt carry the baby in, OH did I said hello to the dog and gave her a treat. Then I took the baby and introduced him to the dog.

She was very good and very gentle with our kids she just knew they couldnt move as fast as she did and adjusted her behaviour accordingly.

By now you should plan set up a limit for your bouncy dogs from a room or area where you and the baby will be staying. When your baby was born and ready to return home, bring something that belongs to baby first for your dogs to sniff so they will be familiar with new one in the family.

When we introduced my SIL's baby to her dogs they had set up a baby pen/bed for the baby and had been putting blankets that had the babys smell on them in the baby pen a few days before bringing the baby home, then when she brought the baby home her OH was holding the baby whilst she walked in with them, the dogs obviously went to greet her and her OH put the baby in the pen, the dogs were taken to the pen and from that day they were OK with the baby, they still are, you should be making a routine now though. When a baby comes into the house routines will change for the dogs and so if you switch them with the baby there they may put their guard up, but if you switch the routine around now they will get used to it and you will be able to go about it as part of your daily life.
