Papillon, how interesting. I thought you had large breed dogs.
Here are my Papillions...

your paps are beautiful
gee and to think I was told when I got her 3 1/2 years ago she was a full blooded chihuahua. although part of me thought she was part pap.
a friend of mine took her from a bad situation. had her one night and then I got her after staying a day with her. I am not a big one on small dogs. but we fell in love the first day and I brought her home. I spent a day with my friend to make sure we could bond or be comfortable. I didn't want her bouncing around different houses.
the elderly owner who breeds chihuahua's got sick and no longer could take care of her. I guess someone was abusive to her and gizzy was in the middle all the time. I am understanding that she had other dogs she bred too. I was told she was breed with a short and long haired chihuahua. I sometimes look at gizzy and doubt it myself. but I don't care now. she was 5/6 when I got her and she is now 9. by a miracle and surprise. I have the same vet as her original owner and they say she is 9 now. the vet said she is chihuahua but won't confirm or deny she isn't full (which means nothing to me) I got her spayed when I got her anyway. not to mention totally in love with the little girl.
That is my story of how I received a toy dog.

Many of mine have come via same situation. Odd though that most who know me are surprised since I am about 6' 2" and weigh around 275lbs they picture me having large dogs which I did for years also but when they find out I have Papillons and Miniature Pinschers with a couple IG's thrown in and then find out that the largest dog I own, a German Pinscher weighing a whopping 40lbs they are stunned. My large breeds were Shep/Husky and Mal/Wolf. The Mal/Wolf weighed in at 170lbs in his prime.

thank you very much...I can attest, like the Miniature Pinscher, do not let the size and appearance fool you. They are a small bundle of TNT waiting to explode regularly. The male (far left in the pic) actually goes after the German Pinscher regularly as well as the 14 month old in the pic of the adults together. She actually nips at the back of his legs and he generally high tails it for his crate

I remember reading somewhere that "pappilon" means "butterfly" because the ears look like butterfly wings. Your gizzy is so cute. She is picture perfect.

yes, Papillon is French for butterfly. In north America we recognize both the Papillon and Phalene (French for Moth, to describe those who's ears do not stand totally erect) as one breed. In Europe, they recognize the Papillon and Phalene as 2 separate breeds.
