Exclamation I have a major question and I need help!

Ok, I feed my dog Mystique regular balance dog food...Sometimes I add like alittle treat into her food, but is there any ok veggies i can put in her food? I know beans and tomatos are really bad for dogs, but what can I feed her for a veggie? Oh and what meat can I feed her, because I have looked on the internet and one website says this and one website say oh no thats bad...

So my main question here is:

What meat and veggies are ok for me to feed to my dog and how do I prepare the food???

Thank you very much!!!

Brooke and Mystique

Brooke,

What dogs are fed are depending on what method owners are comfortable with.

I feed raw diet to my dog,and some raw diet people feed vegetable, some don't. Some people grind food and some feed hunk of meat. Some people feed unground bone, some feed ground bone..Some home-made diet people feed vegetable, legume, grains, but rawdiet people don't feed grain etc.

Vegetable does not harm the dogs I think but, dogs cannot break the cell veg has and we can. We human grind food before eat it but with dogs, they chew couple of times and those go to tummy straight away. So,most often you would find chunk of veg in poop.IF you feed veg,you cook them, mash them just like baby food, and give it to your dogs.Giving treat sized veg is fine but I am not comfortable feeding huge amount of vegetable. Veg has good point, bad point and, even if I decided to feed good amount of veg,I am not comfortable feeding one type of veg all the time. For example, night shade family veg such as potato, peppers, tomatoes, eggplant etc are not good to be fed big amount to arthritis dogs because it aggregated the inflammation. And,spinach interfere absorption of calcium, and some veg interfere function of thyroid etc if fed too much.Veg also bulk up the poop and soften up the poop too.

So,myself,I feed raw diet without veg. I feed many kinds of meat, fish, poultry, organs etc

Today,my dog gets Mackerel, chicken feet,Lamb heart, chicken liver, and ground Green Tripe.

I think if you ask 10 raw feeding people that does not feed veg,you would find 10 different ways of feeding the same diet. Probably basic line they follow will be same but how they feed will be different. I think finding the diet your dogs do best on will be good for your dogs.

Well, some home-feeders feed beans (I think lentil is popular)but I think what they do is get dry beans and cook them to mash and feed it. If I feed beans to my dog,I would cook them rather than reaching to canned beans.Canned beans is processed so,you may find more than bean as ingredients.

With veg,if you feed veg, stay away from Onion. Not good for dogs. And stay away from macadamia nuts(fatal toxic). Garlic is okay but if you give too much,it thin the blood and cause anemia so,that maybe one thing you might want to keep in mind.

For meat, stay away from seasoned or enhanced meat because seasoning, saline solution, broth injected meat can cause digestive upset.

My dog eats probably much better than us..but she hates rabbit meat,so I don't feed. and I do not feed tilapia because if cooked, she vomits,if fed raw, violent diarrhea. She does good on other fish but no tilapia.I also don't feed cat fish because she is more interested in roll on it rather than eating it,lol. She loves mackerel a lot in fish department. This week, she gets Mackerel and perch for fish.

I'm not a fan of raw diets, and won't feed my dogs raw meat. What meat you can feed your dog, cooked or raw, depends on whether your dog is allergic to any meat sources. But as a general rule, any good meat is fine for your dog so long as he isn't allergic to it, and it doesn't contain too much fat.

As for vegetables, you can feed most vegetables. If you want the dog to get any real nutritional value, you have to grind them or cook and mash them. Good choices are carrots, green beans, squash, sweet potato and pumpkin.

You can also feed fruits like apple, pear, blueberries, bananas and peaches. Be sure there are no seeds or pits in the fruits that you feed, with the exception of berries and bananas. Peach pits, in particular, can be deadly.

Stay away from onions, grapes, avocado, and macadamia nuts. All are toxic to dogs, and it's not known how much is too much. Also avoid chocolate, tea, and coffee.

Nuts in general can be a problem because of their high fat content and the fact that they are major allergens. If your dog isn't allergic, a bit of peanut butter is fine, but remember that high fat foods can cause pancreatitis and digestive problem.

Broccoli can be toxic if more than 10% of the total diet is broccoli. A little bit is fine as a treat, but avoid large amounts.

You can also include yogurt and eggs in your dog's diet. Yogurt should contain active cultures to give your dog the full benefit. Eggs can be fed raw or hard boiled, although raw egg might cause the dog a bit of gas. If you boil them you can grind/mash the eggs shell and all, to give your dog extra nutrition.
