Double dewclaws and missing rear dewclaws are not unusual. The standard practice is to remove dewclaws at 2-3 days of age, especially rear ones. Unless the dog is a show dog where the standard requires them to have double dewclaws.

As far as I know the only dogs with double dewclaws as a breed standard are, the Briard, Beauceron, Great Pyrenees and Estrela Mountain Dog.

With the Briard, their double dewclaws should not be removed as they are attached by a very strong bone and removal at any age is very painful.
