Default I was so scared

Timber and I had just got done walking 6 miles. 3 pitbulls, a bull terrier ran a 3 foot high fence line with one of the people about 19 yrs old trying to run between the dogs and the fence. one pit bull ran back towards the house down the drive and around the fence and got timber in the face. I have 7 witnesses to this. called the animal control officer which had been there before. (we know him personally he is awesome) and he said the kid denied it at first but he isn't done with them yet. the fence is too low, the pits are supposed to be leashed at all times even in a fenced area. now another guy went up there to find out how many more dogs these people have. so far I have counted 9 during my walks.

Before you all freak out, timber got one tooth right below the halti and it is doing ok. vet said to keep an eye on it and to keep the halti off of it for a few days. So no walking. the halti makes the puncture wound bleed. so until it clots we need to be careful.

Timber never tried to retailiate. he just tried climbing under me. he won't let me out of his sight now. so that is concerning.

I am hoping this don't set him back too much with the walking and walking by dogs.he was doing so good this week. only had one incident where he got real playful and didn't want to walk by the dog. but the rest of the week has been perfect. we have been walking 6 miles in the morning and 3 at night. he seems happy and he was so proud this morning.

I have every bit of confidence that the animal control officer will take care of business. these people are also my neighbors so I will have to watch my house very carefully in the next few weeks. Luckily for me I have enough witnesses to back me up if needed.

I am off to relieve some of my anxiety and go love on gizzy and timber. timber won't even let me go down the hall for any reason. he follows me and most of the time right between my legs. I am glad he sees me as a protector but it is sad that he is this way. he was minding his own business and doing everything right.

I feel so bad for him, yet theres not much else I can do for him. I don't want to feed the fear. I haven't loved on him any more than I usually do and now I am only wiping the dribbles of blood as needed. when he settles down. I go and love him some but I keep it quick. it is so hard though.

well enough about us,

How is everyone else doing today?

Glad to hear all is ok and he was not hurt badly. Give him some time to come around. New experience for him and he will adjust in time. I have issues like this in the past and for me, I take the offensive and actually charge the dog and start growling. Granted, at 6' 2" and 275lbs with full beard and long hair I obviously look to a dog like a bear. That and the fact that most dogs do not know how to react when they start to charge and the person instead of moving away starts charging back. Most dogs cannot think and react at the same time. So when confronted by something new, they first have to think it out or they generally panic and retreat. That Pit is lucky that was not Thor my old Mal/Wolf.
Thor at 170lbs could crush a bone with no effort and did not tolerate dogs charging him. He would ignore them otherwise but I have seen him pick up and 80lbs dog by the neck and literally slam it to the ground, bite its neck without puncturing and hold the dog there til I called him off. In time Timber will learn to defend himself but the first encounters like this are usually met with confusion as it is all new. In the future he will watch and observe and if this issue arises again will be more prepared.

Timber seems to be doing ok right now. he is a little swollen but bleeding has clotted. he has gone outside with little trouble to potty.

I believe in time he will get over it. he isn't right up under me now and will let me do my daily chores.

I think some rest over night and he will bounce right back.

my other neighbor has a dog just like yours ( husky though) but don't take crap from any dog. he would of sunk his teeth in and tore its neck apart.

I don't blame the dog, but I blame the irresponsible owners. they have a lot of dogs for a small place. not to mention they all have police records which don't help.

Oh well, happier days to come.

have a good night all.

OMG! This is becoming an epidemic. It's getting to where it just isn't safe to walk a dog any more.

I'm glad to hear that Timber is all right. Bless his heart! I'm sure you will give him extra loving and care.

Heal up, Timber.

mama, it is getting to that point where it isn't safe to be out walking. it is such a sad truth. most of it because of careless and / or ignorant ownership of dogs. not much we can do, but watch out for every house who got a new dog , who got rid of one. know your neighborhood. even then it can get surprising. the dogs that attacked timber were never out at that time of morning. I am glad the four of them didn't jump the fence together as they would of killed timber and injured me severely.

timber is doing good this morning. he was very nervous of going outside this morning, but he did venture out very cautiously. took some time, but my hubby and I have loads of patience.

he isn't swollen anymore, you can see where he got bit, but closed well. he does have 2 teeth marks in his licensing tag. so even though the wound will heal, the evidence will be there for another year.

It is raining today so going to do some inside training and loving time. boost up his confidence some.

have a happy friday all and enjoy all those pups/dogs you have.
