Maybe we are crazy but we have fallen in love with a breed....info and advice please
I'm dead serious about this. And we've been spending a lot of time down at the shelter with this Pit mix and she has won us over.
We are not in the position to do it now but once we have our child and he is about 6 we would like to adopt an American Pit Bull Terrier mix from the shelter. We fell in love with a Lab/Pit Bull mix at the shelter recently but aren't in a place we can do it right now
We think that if we can find one like her (very friendly and playful) that would be the perfect family dog.
So we have a few years to think about it but what should we start looking into now.
What do we need to know about owning an American Pit Bull Terrier or American Pit Bull Terrier mix?
(We have had experience with dogs....growing up I had experience with Boxers and Labs, .....and we have a JRT mix)
Anyways what tips and advice can you give us (We are definately set on atleast a mix with Pit in it)
I know a lot can change in 6 years but we have fallen in love with the breed and want to make a difference in a homeless ones life and in 6 years of so we will have had time to prepare and become better dog owners/pet parents.
I know I was one with a bias but then I met these dogs at the shelter and everything I ever thought I threw away and I feel bad for ever thinking it. My husband wants one and so do I now.....in time ofcourse.
But what are things we should start considering now?
And what is the best place to read up on them?
thanks
(I apologize to all pits and their families out there for not seeing what a great creature they can be)
I'll admit as much trouble as we are having with our little poodle we have a lot to learn about training before taking on a Pit bull....but we have time to learn
I like terriers though they seem to be smart and eager to learn and please

Hmm
I love terriers they are great, and since you have experience with dogs you should actually get use to a pit pretty well. All is I need to say is that Terriers love to dig in the dirt and run ALOT. Im sure youll do great and have fun!

I'm a fan of Pitts too, they are amazing, we had one in our neighbor and she's totally awesome and lovely. Dogs really become as good or as bad as they are, all accordingly to their owners and not on the breed. I've seen a lot of wonderful and inspiring stories of heroic Pitts and they are really amazing.
