Smile Does anyone have a "grand dog" that you take care of?

I was just curious if anyone on this forum has a "grand dog" - a dog that your child adopted or bought - and then you "got custody" of it.

I have a Jack Russell named Vito that my son bought. Our discussion before he bought the dog included, "I'll feed him, I'll buy his food, I'll take care of him, I'll train him to ride in a car and take him with me on rides," blah, blah, blah. Guess what? Vito's grandparents (my husband and I) feed him, we buy his food, we take care of him, we even got him neutered (we don't take him in the car, though).

I was just wondering how common this is.

Really I find this HALARIOUS. Your probably asking why- Because im currently 13 and just got a Jack Russell Terrier 2 months ago. And I said that same exact things to my parents. Guess what they fell for it. But I wanted the puppy to call my own, take care of it AND to show it in AKC conformation shows. Im inlove with going to dog shows and that made me want a puppy even more. The first 2 weeks I took care of it and did everything poosible. Training, letting it out, playing, feeding, bathing, EVERYTHING. But at the end of those 2 weeks its like hmm I think my mom could do this. And pretty much made her do everything. That is intill she started saying shes going to give the puppy back from were she got it. I think I learned that its my responsiablty and MY dog.

So I think its funny how our story seems so much alike but I take care of Annie (the JRT) now. I guess your son might be to young to understand or just not willing to take care of it?? Id like to hear a response :] (good luck)

Heather

Haha! Guess what? My son is 23!!! Old enough to be responsible but NOT! You're doing better than a 23-year-old. That's something! Maybe you messed up by making your mom take care of your JRT but at least you decided it was your responsibility and are now taking care of your dog. And you're also a girl - that makes a big difference! Boys are generally not as responsible as girls. (Don't tell any boys I said that.) Keep up the good work!

Smile grand dog

We inherited Gus a 4yr old pitbull from my daughter 2 yrs ago, i was very aprehensive at first, but this dog is the mellowest dog i have ever been around, he is wonderful and we love him to death. Our daughter still thinks he is her dog but he now obeys us over her..lol I think it is probably more common to end up with pets that seemed like a good idea at the time but since kids that are starting out on there own don't realize dogs need a lot of attention and room to run and in her case was not cut out to live in a small apartment. Good luck and have fun with Vito:-D

I love the part about the dog obeying you over your daughter! That's funny! :-D

We've had Vito for almost 3 years and I couldn't part with him now. He's become a good little dog. If we were good "pack leaders" he would be an even better dog, I'm sure, but we're not and he is spoiled.

It's okay to laugh - I would too, except I'm the one that got stuck with a dog! It's okay, though, cuz he's a good little dog now and he grew on me and now I love him.

By the way, I've never heard of a schipperke. I have a doggy blog of different breeds of dogs. Would you like to put one of your schipperkes on it? It's called Pick of the Litter. You can look at it and see if you would like a picture of one of your schipperkes and information about it on there. Vito (the JRT I got "custody" of) is on there under the Jack Russell category.

Hey Heather. I saw the comment you left on my blog. Sorry I'm so long gettting back on here. If you want, you can put all of your schipperkes on my blog and I'll call it the "picks" of the litter. I just need pictures of them, either individually or together, and then give me some info about them like:

Name:
Male/Female:
Age:
Place where they live:
Likes/dislikes:
Anything you want to say about them:

I'll send you a private message on here with my email address so you can send them to me that way.

And thanks for letting me put your doggies on my blog!
