Here's a link for some natural way's to rid them.

5 Solutions for Natural Flea Control | Healthy and Green Living

Your friend will not only have to treat the pup but the bedding and house too. Wash all the pup's bedding and vacume the floor alot. I buy a flea collar and cut it up and have some of it in all of my vacume cleaner bag's, then when I vacume they end up right there with the flea collar.

don't forget to put all stuffed animals in a plastic bag and tie it up for 24 hours. Yes fleas can get those too. I have found when treating a severe flea problem to treat your animal and house like you would if you had lice. Everything must get washed in hot soapy water if possible. Any room the animal has been in and the rooms where you have been as fleas can get in your clothes. You can use bug spray around window sills and edges of the floor as well as mattresses as long as you give it time for the smell to go away before entering.

Don't forget to get some frontline plus. you can get this real cheap at drfostersmith.com an awesome product if you live in an area that has alot of fleas.

luckily for me I only had this problem once and that is when I moved into a new place and didn't realize the flea problem.

You can also use the bombs, but must bag up all dishes, silverware, remove all animals for 8 hours or so. read the bombs first. then you must air out your house.

if it is real bad and you feel like you are a never ending battle you can talk to your vet for a flea dip. I personally don't like the choice, but it is an option.

hope this helps.

I can't tell from the picture what it is but if it is'nt a tick and it's not bothering your pup I would just keep an eye on it.
Thanks for your kind words...! it doesn't bother him at all, and I'm checking it to make sure it doesn't get bigger or anything. We have a checkup at the vet coming up, so I'll show them & see what they have to say... And yes, I too learned alot from this question!!

I know I hate this job.( Tick removal ) I found something that works pretty good though on people and pets, and less traumatic than the tweezers. Also you don't have to touch them.

Put a glob of liquid soap on a cotton ball and hold it on the tick about 10 to 15 seconds and lift it. The tick will let go on his own and be caught in the cotton ball.

Arrow Since It Is Tick Season!

The following link serves 2 purposes--To bring this thread to the surface because there is a lot of info on tick removal and since it is the time to know how to do this I am also adding a link to this article on how to do this safely from my recent Doctors Foster and Smith newsletter: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/videoc...fm?videoid=345

So now you may also want to go back to the 1st post in this thread and follow through the entire thread---I esp. like the idea of cutting a piece off of a flea collar and touching it to the enbedded tick and having it drop off dead!!

In all my years of dog parenting, I've only ever had one dog who got a tick and, that was after a romp in Algonquin Park. I had the vet remove it and, she suffered no ill effects from it. However, that was many years ago before we started hearing about all the potential diseases that ticks can cause.

I'm planning to take my babes up to the cottage this summer so, I'll be watching like a hawk for ticks. My lot are all on Revolution. Does anybody know if that repels ticks? I never thought to ask their Dr.

Found this online...

"Revolution

Advantages:

Revolution is a liquid applied to your pet’s skin once a month. Revolution is an excellent product, and considering all that it does (heartworm, fleas, and ticks), economical to use. During the summer, when pets need both flea and heartworm control, we recommend Revolution for most dogs and nearly all cats.

Disadvantages.:

Revolution is not a great tick product. Revolution will kill ticks, but it takes four or five days to do it. When your dog is out there getting several ticks at a time, four or five days is not fast enough. In the summertime, use Revolution for heartworm and flea control and the Preventic collar for ticks.

Because Revolution is available only by prescription, you need to get it from your veterinarian. You can ask your veterinarian for a prescription and buy it on the internet, but that’s probably not a good idea.

1800 pet meds and ordering meds online is a very controvercial subject. We actually have a thread about it I will direct you to...

The Best Online Pet Places

You should find your answer there. There are risks and negative/mixed feeling about ordering meds online or from 1800 pet meds so I personally wouldn't take the chance. I'd just get them directly from the vet.

Well my vet is like 5 min. from my house so its not a problem getting them from the vet. I didnt even know it was controvercial, i just thought it would be the same med. Thats bad of me i should have done more research. Luckily i havent order any so ill just stick with getting it from my vet. Thanks!

The correct dosage goes by the weight of your dog so, unless you have an accurate weight, you could under or over medicate by buying on line.

I see the disadvantages now.. although not knowing my dogs weight is not an issue... the pet store i go to has a scale so i weigh her about once a week.. shes been a steady 23.5lbs for about 3 months now. But like i said im sticking with my vet.
