hi i am 12 years old and i am wanting a dog. my parents are thinking about a shiba inu but the only breeder in my area that i have access to sells the breed for about $900. i was wondering if there is a better dog breed for me.
i am looking for a dog that:
does not shed alot
can handle a small yard or being an inside dog
is cute
is NOT big but is not a rat sized dog
i want somewhere between a corgi and a sheperd of some sort.
with short hair please!
and the dog has to be up to my knees or about that size.
i cant seem to think of the right one

First, you might want to decide on whether you want a pure breed or a mixed breed. I currently am fortunate enough to be the mom of one of each. They are both wonderful girls. A mixed breed will cost you less and, you will be giving a home to a dog who might not otherwise get one. You may have to visit your local shelter a few times before you meet the one who is meant for you. If at all possible, I prefer to rescue a dog from a shelter. Ultimately though, it has to be your decision.

Sorry, but besides the price issue, a Shiba Inu isn't a breed I'd pick for a 12 year old. Not only that, it doesn't come close to filling your prerequisites. They aren't short haired, shed quite a bit, and need lots of exercise.

Definitely check out a shelter or two. They might have a pup or dog that exactly suits your needs.

But if you really want a purebred, here's some suggestions. Rat Terrier, Bull Terrier, Beagle, Boston Terrier, or, if you want something a little larger, Mountain Cur.

Stay away from Dalmatians if you want a dog that doesn't shed much. They may have short coats, but they shed like there's no tomorrow.

Standard Longhaired Dachshunds don't shed a whole lot, and don't require a lot of grooming. And they're about the size of a Corgi, but a lot more laid back and bidable.

If you do go with a purebred, check out the breeder very well. Make sure you get a health guarantee and that both parents of your pup have been health tested and have good temperaments.
