My Mood: | Very upsetting news from Toronto.
The Toronto Humane Society has been raided by the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals over some very ugly allegations. According to various news sources, animals were found living in filthy conditions, two needed immediate medical attention and medications to sick animals were not being fully dispensed. Records show that a number of very sick animals died alone in their cages because the President of the organization; Tim Trow, will not euthanize animals even when it is recommended by a veterinarian.
Animals have been adopted out who would otherwise be deemed unadoptable due to temperament issues or serious illness. The other day, a dog was adopted to a couple who noticed he was limping, took him to a vet and discovered that one of his back legs was fractured. They paid to have their new friend treated. Animals are also being adopted without being spayed/neutered which only adds to the problem of pet overpopulation.
Adoptable animals have been turned away because of a lack of room because Tim Trow will not euthanize dogs who have been surrendered for aggression, including one pitbull who tore off most of a child's face.
There are also allegations of donation money having gone missing. Needless to say, animal lovers in this city are outraged! The Toronto Humane Society used to be a model for what a good shelter should be. I know that because I volunteered there for many years until Tim Trow took over. He created such a toxic work environment that people left in droves. He replaced well trained unionized employees with people who do not have adequate training to do their jobs. There are very few volunteers left.
Thankfully, the animals are now in the care of the OSPCA. At this point, many of us are hoping that Tim Trow and the entire board of directors will be fired.
Has anybody else experienced anything like this with animal shelters in their areas? If so, what did you do to ensure that things changed so that the animals were protected? I understand a protest is being planned but, I have no details about it yet.

With those cases, you can't call it a Humane Society for animals there are not treating humanely... how terrible. Glad actions were taken to correct the system. The management was heartless.

My Mood: | Update!
There will be a protest held at the THS on June 20th at 2:00 p.m. at 11 River Street to attempt to oust Tim Trow from any further involvement with the Toronto Humane Society. I intend to be there even though I still have a cast on my leg. I hope those of you in the forum who are from the Toronto area will come and lend your support. Remember, the animals can't speak for themselves. It's up to us animal lovers to give them a voice. Hope to see you there!
There is a wealth of information about Tim Trow on google, none of it pretty. I urge you to check it out.
