Very confusing article...
Something about this article just doesn't make sense. My little JRT weighs 14 pounds and she is smaller than my cat! A 5 pound dog would be a tiny little thing. I find it hard to believe that something that small would be capable of inflicting the kind of damage that the article is claiming and, that it would take 3 bullets to kill it. With a dog that small, the officer could have simply taken off his jacket and wrapped the dog up in it, thereby stopping any supposed attack. The officer could have called in animal services/SPCA to deal with the little thing, although he was probably too embarrassed to do so.
There appears to be a further discrepancy as to both the breed of the dog and the weight. The dog is either a 5 pound chiuaua X or a 20 pound JRT X. There is a big difference between a 5 pound dog and a 20 pound dog, neither of which would be likely to inflict that kind of damage. I'm not saying someone wasn't bitten but, the dog would have had to have been cornered and terrified. Someone is not telling the truth!
Finally, one has to ask the obvious question; what was any dog, regardless of size doing out on the street unsupervised? Not only is it illegal for a dog to be at large; it is dangerous.
