Very confusing article...
Something about this article just doesn't make sense. My little JRT weighs 14 pounds and she is smaller than my cat! A 5 pound dog would be a tiny little thing. I find it hard to believe that something that small would be capable of inflicting the kind of damage that the article is claiming and, that it would take 3 bullets to kill it. With a dog that small, the officer could have simply taken off his jacket and wrapped the dog up in it, thereby stopping any supposed attack. The officer could have called in animal services/SPCA to deal with the little thing, although he was probably too embarrassed to do so.
There appears to be a further discrepancy as to both the breed of the dog and the weight. The dog is either a 5 pound chiuaua X or a 20 pound JRT X. There is a big difference between a 5 pound dog and a 20 pound dog, neither of which would be likely to inflict that kind of damage. I'm not saying someone wasn't bitten but, the dog would have had to have been cornered and terrified. Someone is not telling the truth!
Finally, one has to ask the obvious question; what was any dog, regardless of size doing out on the street unsupervised? Not only is it illegal for a dog to be at large; it is dangerous.

I agree, that story just doesn't add up. Nothing correlates. But besides that, why would the dog be loose? Especially if it's only 5 lbs. That's tiny. I mean, no dog should just be loose like that but 5 lbs?!? Thats crazy.

Very odd story... I don't think it ads up! While a 20 lbs dog could absolutely do that kind of damage it is also easy to stop, drop a coat over it, loop a leash or rope around it, spray it with water, try pepper spray. It just des NOT ad up! And a 5 lbs dog, come on! You are telling me a grow man could not throw a little dog off him (I centinly don't condone throwing dogs but it is better then SHOOTING them), come on! This is just crazy. Please post any additional information on the story if you find it.

Poor dog,
The story does not add up but the real problem is people just turning their dogs loose. I hope the owners are fined and I am sure the policeman is the butt of many jokes. Unfortunately the real loser is the dog.

A 5lb dog is smaller than my cat- who is small. I find it hard to believe that a dog that small could hurt an adult. If nothing else, you would think they would be able to hold it off with their foot.

According to a press release issued by Blue Ash Police on Wednesday, the report provided to them by the SPCA, who examined the dog after the incident, states the dog’s primary breed as a Jack Russell Terrier and that it weighed 20 pounds.

Im not sure where the 5lb thing came from... but it states by the SPCA in the article that it was 20 lbs.
Not only that I really DONT blame the officers in this case, or the dog. The dog did what it was trained to do.. by its owners.
I blame the owners for first of all letting their dog out (or not making sure its area was secure from escape) and for not socializing it properly to attack anyone. I mean it bit a jogger....
Aside from that, like the article stated... the dog wasn't vaccinated.

Police say the dog bit the officer 17 times on one hand and nine times on the other.

That is kind of extensive.

Sucks that they get thier dog shot and then have to pay fines. MAybe the police officer provoked the fight to get more money for the city.
