Smile Dogs 6th sense..in tune with dreams?

Hi there,
I know this sounds silly, but does anyone have any thoughts or similar experience .... I was deep in sleep today and having a horrible nightmare where some masked men came after me and grabbed me and kidnapped me. Later I woke up, and I told hubby about my dream and he said that at one point when I was laying down in there, out of nowhere, our dog (about 11 years old, half rhodesian/half greyhound) had been laying down sleeping (our house was very peaceful) and suddenly he just started barking his head off incessantly and acting all protective. There was no noise around and no reason for this behavior, and he was making so much noise he had to put him out back. I was surprised, but in some way (I know this sounds crazy), but I started thinking about how dogs have a sixth sense in some ways.... and, do you think he somehow was in tune with my nightmare and was trying to protect me??? Any thoughts.....
Stacey

Default Rings a bell...

A number of years ago, I was involved in a hostage situation at my job. For a long time after it happened, I'd have nightmares. Bailey, my border collieX always managed to wake me up whether she barked like almighty hell or jumped on me with all 42 pounds of her. She never did it either before the dreams started or, after they finally blessedly ended. So, I absolutely believe that our dog children have a sixth sense that lets them know when we're in peril, even in our sleep.

I do think dogs have a sixth sense, but I'd be more likely to believe that the above described situation was the dog's response to physiologic responses our bodies make to fear. When we feel we are in danger, be it real or in a dream, we produce a huge amount of adrenaline. Dogs can smell that, even when they're in a different part of the house. They smell our fear, and react accordingly.

You also have to keep in mind that dogs see and hear things we can't Sometimes they could be barking and growling at something only they know is there.

Maybe he has no idea what are you going through but dogs really have great sense to feel humans emotion.
