Homemade Treats
I found a few recipes online for treats that I wanted to try. My roommate's beagle hated them, but my friends' dogs loved them. We even made them into various shapes like paw prints, their initials, and even a kitty cat!
Does anyone make these special treats for their dogs? The recipe I used had peanut butter and oats. I think I'm going to try a few with meat flavoring next.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE making homemade treats, my dog loves the peanut butter one best and its much easier to make then most of the others. I'm trying to find a cheap cookie cutter that's the shape of a small bone!
Though lately i've stopped making treats since Luca is on a diet (lost 5kgs already!!!)

Thanks to both of you for the links!!! I prefer to make everything that my girls eat. However, I've tried a few kibble recipes and they've all been a great big flop!!! Do either of you have a good kibble recipe?
I had a couple of really good cookie recipes that used baby food beef, chicken or lamb...Haven't seen in them for a while. I'll see if I can dig them up. Both of my girls LOVED them!!!

Whoa Prisca those were pretty nice links and recipes. After a days of non-stop raining here, it's been a week now of hot and sunny days, my buddy enjoys the frozen kong with peanut butter fillings.

No problem!
Frozen kongs are great! Especially for puppies, it helps soothes their gums. Oscar my ex-puppy loved them. Keep him occupied too.
Lara's mum:
Kibble recipe?? Do u mean like making the dog biscuits or like treats with kibbles as part of the ingredients? sorry a tad confused!

kongs
Boy i thought what a great toy this would make it hard sturdy plastic that you can put something into and it would take forever for the dog to get it out. should keep him busy all day.
Paid 17 dollars for it biggest one they had. I have a pit dalmation mix and boy was i wrong. I was even worried. in a half hours time, the dog had torn the first layer off and not only ate the peanut butter, but ate and swallowed the top. Then from then on it was only a matter of time before he finished the kong off. I could only give it to him when i was in the room watching him as he would tear a piece off and sit there and chew on it like a piece of bubblegum. I 'd have to get up and get it out of his mouth. Did this for the whole kong. Took him about a week to get through the rest. I tried the tire with the rope and the puppy actually tore that apart. I am about to go out and get a car tire pretty soon. anyone else have anymore ideas?

What I wondered is if anybody had had success with making homemade kibble. I tried it and it was an utter failure. It never got hard enough and neither of my girls would touch it. The whole lot went into the garbage!

My doggy loves Chicken Liver Treats. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
* 1 lb. chicken liver
* 2 eggs
* 2 tablespoons molasses
* 1 1/2 cups cornmeal
* 1/2 cup dried milk
Instructions:
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour onto a baking tray and bake at 400 until the sides start to come away from the pan or a knife comes out clean. Let it cool, cut into pieces and store in fridge!
Yummy!

My dogs love these too but I quit making them because of the cornmeal, darn! I have thought about substituting with ground (real fine) quick oatmeal but as yet haven't experimented---too hot to have the oven going right now anyway. I had also made them with beef liver (much messier though and prob more toxins in the beef liver compared to the chicken liver). If I remember right I use to use the corn muffin mix to make them too.

Prob. is an American thing but if you have a Walmart in your area --you might see it there--It is fairly cheap--comes in a small box and the brand name (one of the brands) is Jiffy----They make brownie mixes and other muffin mixes too and maybe little cake mixes too. BUT, ALAS, corn is not for my dogs anymore!

That sounds easy enough! And I know how the pup gets when it comes to chicken liver.

We Americans love our corn muffins. Tastes good with bean soup and smoked ham. Not to worry, though. I also make scones too.
