Default PETA - Love them or hate them?

I thought it would be interesting to get the members take on whether PETA is a righteous organization or a sham. I remember way back in my youth when they were saving lab animals from awful experiments, I had a great deal of respect for the organization. However, I have since come across so much negative press concerning PETA that I've been forced to drastically revise my opinion. I'd be very interested to know how the other members of the forum feel about PETA and why. It would make for an interesting discussion.

I find them largely ignorable. Because, how can one have hate or love for a group led by a psycho?

I think I just offended psychos everywhere. My apology.

Default Pipi:

If what I'm reading about them is true, I would find it hard to ignore them. From what I've been able to gather, the PETA of my youth is nothing like the organization that exists today. The point is, I've read so much conflicting information that I'm wondering how much of each side of the debate is true. That's why I asked the members to comment.

The peta of today is in no way a concerned representation of its younger days.
Its ploys and tactics are out right illegal. As an example, they solicited a blind notice to the AKC posing as a animal organization willing to give special gifts to those who register their purebred puppies with AKC. What these unsuspecting new puppy owners received was a gift package with a plastic garbage bag with a note enclosed stating in effect, here is a bag you can use to bury the dog you killed by purchasing a puppy. Neglecting to point out that better than 80% of the dogs they rescue are euthanized. This is not idle gossip but has been proven fact for last several years. They have gone to AKC dog shows and managed to release purebreds from their kennels. Leaving them to potentially be killed in the streets. Please explain how this is humane as far as their stance with regards to animals. They have over stepped their bounds locally here. In Seattle we have a very famous farmers market on the waterfront. In that market is what we call the "fish mongers". There is fresh caught steel head, sockeye and king salmon on display. When you go to the counter and see what you want, the clerk than calls out to the man at the back who is the one who wraps it. He then tosses the fish and is caught some 10 to 12 feet away. When a local medical company was holding a conference here recently they wanted to use the fish mongers as an example of how well people can work together with trust and how catching or receiving in a sense from another is teamwork and can be used as an example in all aspects of life. Peta immediately heard about this and proceeded to dress up like dead fish on the sidewalk in front of the convention center where the meeting was being held. Now important to note that the fish are DEAD. They are not taking and tossing around live fish. Is Peta next going after farmers who butcher a chicken for dinner? Sorry, they do not receive my support and have not since going off on this psychotic tangent they are on and need to come back to earth where reality is.

I used to repsect PETA when I was younger. I lost all respect when they started complaining about people killing flies, cockroaches and misquitoes. They started promoting the use of live fly traps so you can set them free outside. These things are not animals. They are insects. And disease carrying insects at that. I no longer support them if they are going to use the money i donate to stupid crap. I would rather donate my money to the local humane society instead. At least I know what what their intentions are and I know they aren't turning into a bunch of whacks.

There's a saying amongst dog trainers that even negative attention is still attention. Well, if you find it hard to ignore them...they've won. They want reaction even if they must provoke it. They have absolutely no impact on how I'll vote to protect my rights as a dog owner.

Peta lost its mind and I lost my respect for them. Their methods make no sense and hurt more than help.

Ugh, PETA's tactics make me absolutely sick.
