Hypoallergenic Breeds?
Hello Everyone,
My wife and I are considering getting another dog, preferably a small dog and are wondering what breeds are hypoallergenic. Any ideas? Any input will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Dogs for people with allergies
We have a Bichon Cockapoo (Alvin) and just recently, a Cockapoo (Simon). I have a family member with an allergy to dog/cat fur and she does not react to either dog.
Like cockapoos, poodles have hair versus fur, so this is a breed you might consider.

Keep in mind that no dog is truly hypoallergenic. Allergies have nothing to do with hair or fur- its the dander and saliva that cause allergic reactions and every dog sheds skin and has saliva!

I'm very allergic to dogs, but I have two pups that don't cause any problems at all! I've got an Old English Sheepdog (but bathe regularly or the dander will get to you) and a Mini schnauzer. It's been mentioned that no dog really is hypoallergenic, but in my experience I've found that if you get dogs with hair rather than fur and you groom them regularly (and they're not "outside dogs") then you'll have fewer problems. If you've got your heart set on a dog with fur, there is always an option to get those allergy shots from your allergist to develop an immunity to dog fur. Good luck!

Keep in mind no dog is truly hypoallergenic.
I have a minature poodle, which is considered a hypoallergenic breed
And I have a Terrier mix.
Now the Terrier mix who is a shedder you would think would bother my allergies but really I'm less allergic to her than my poodle.
Now I'm not really allergic to my poodle but with a poodle that have that tight curly coat and they bring in everything on it, from pollen to grass to other outdoor allergens and that is what I am allergic to.
So you need to keep that in mind.
I did quite well with my Shih Tzu growing up and my dads maltese.
But at the end of the day you just have to spend time with different breeds and find what works for you

There are a lot of hypo allergenic dogs. I think I've heard that Siberian huskies are Hypo allergenic. You can take a look at this site. They have a list of hypo allergenic dogs. Dogs Good For Allergy Suffers, Hypo-allergenic dogs

There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog!!! Either get shots and have a dog or don't bother!

Hypoallergenic in dogs does not exist.
Some dogs have less dander than others and therefore are more recommended for allergy sufferers than others.
My suggestion is to go over the list of dogs that are suggested, choose a breed or two. Then while researching where to get your dog, be sure to plan to go and spend time at the breeders home or rescue with the dogs prior to making plans to take one home. This will help determine if that breed will aggravate your allergies or not and save yourself and the pup from having to be rehomed if it didnt work out.
