Default Dog shows, help?

Hi all,

I was just looking into dog shows since my Golden Retriever Club is holding a match day for showing etc... I'm kinda new at these stuff I only joined for the fun stuff like the dog walks at the beach etc.

Well anyways I've been doing some reserach and I'm so confused right now.
This whole show thing is really confusing and interesting!

I mean I would love to join Luca in a match( I would need to be junior handlers? right? since I'm only 13... )

Can someone explain to me all the categories?? and What they mean??

like Novice and open catogory etc. What happens in shows, What newbies should know, how formal is a match? just like everything?

I'm not focused on showing Luca, its just its all so interesting! So thanks in advance!

Prisca

hi and have fun with your dog that the most important thing to do,

showing is great fun and you make loads of friends both human and doggie friends.

Yes if your 13 you can do junior handling usually the age on the catalouge is for 6-11yrs and then 12-16 yrs.

There is no reason why you can't compete with the adults in classes as well, many do in england.

The classes at shows are

Minor Puppy, for puppies 6-9 months of age
Puppy, for puppies 6-12 months of age
Junior, for dogs aged 6-18 months
Special Yearling, for dogs 12-18 months
Novice, for dogs that have not won a challenge Certificate or 3 or more 1st prizes at open or champion shows.
Graduate, for dogs which have not won a challenge certificate or 4 or more 1st champion shows.
Open, for all dogs of the breed which the is provided and eligible for the show
Any variety not seperately classified, for breeds of dog which there are no seperate breed classes

good luck

While I could help you with anything show related in the US....I know nothing of shows and the rules in New Zealand.
I wish you well though, and have fun!
