Strange dog on porch
For the past week, we have found a strange dog on our porch. He appears to be well taken care of. A little obese too. He has a collar and rabies tags, but no name tag. He'll come in the house long enough to get a drink and go back out and lay on the porch again. He shows no interest in food whatsoever. I think he's wellfed anyways. He shows signs of grooming. His nails are trimmed, no mats. He doesn't smell bad at all. He smells like shampoo. He is around for a few hours and then he leaves. We don't see him at night, so i think he has a bed to go to. I do not want to take him to a shelter or the pound, so I just let him sleep on my porch and go when he wants to go. But I worry about him getting hit on the road, or someone else turning him in. I was thinking about putting a note on the dog's collar to let the owners know that he is at my house during the day. I did that with some lady's cat that lived down the street and she called and told me to leave her f*****ing cat alone and hung up on me. So I am undecided as to what to do.

I would worry about him getting hit also!---Or going to another house in his travels that wasn't as friendly as you and do some harm to it or turn it in to the humane society, etc. If it were me, I would put a note on it (maybe your phone #??) and state the case and your concerns. I would think that the owner would be glad to hear these things--The owner must care about the dog if it has been well taken care of--shampoo, etc. Too bad you can't follow him and find out where he lives or goes. Just a thought that 'hit' me --maybe the owner is in need of help--you never know!!
---What kind of dog is this?

He looks like a yellow lab mix. If I see him again today, I will attach my phone number. Maybe he's a sneaky dog and sneaks under the fence when the owner is away and sneaks back under before the owner gets home. Maybe the owner doesn't know he goes exploring during the day.

I'd attach the note. If the owner isn't happy about it, too bad. At least you'll know you did the right thing.

The dog showed up again. I attached a note. The owner called me. His other dog chewed a hole in the fence. He hadn't realized that his older dog was getting out and sleeping on my porch everyday while he was at work. He appologized for any inconveniences. I told him his dog was no problem. I joked that the next time he wants me to watch his dog while he was at work, he should call first. He invited my dogs over to his house for a play date. I'm glad things turned out ok.

Good to Hear!
Glad things turned out so well! Sounds like you also made a new friend! Is the guy going to fix the hole in the fence? Lol, that dog must have been coming to your house while his owner was at work just for your company.

lol. Maybe he just likes my porch. I hope the guy does fix his fence. Don't want his nice doggy to get picked up as a stray. I told him to get a nametag with his phone number on it in case it happens again.
