Bad Mommy
Have any of you spoiled your dogs in such a way that you knew you were going to be paying for it later? You always think, well I won't give in this time, I won't give in this time...ok, but this is the last time... Or you think that well, it can't hurt since he's little. I can change it when he gets bigger. Well, I did that with my Saint Bernard puppy. At night time I am alone because my husband works third shift. And the puppy would get so lonely at night and whine. So I would put his head on my shoulder and rock him to sleep. I know, I know...he's not a human baby. But now he expects it every night and Buster is getting close to 14 weeks now and weighs 45 lbs. I am having trouble picking him up. And I tell him no. He doesn't whine or bark. It's worse than that! He turns away with his head and tail down and his shoulders slumped and he walks a short distance away and looks back at me with his sad little puppydog eyes. How can I say no to that? So I am going to rock him sleep this one last time...

How spoiled are they!!!
I have never been much of a disciplinarian. Both of my girls figured that out early on. However, Lara, being a JRT takes full advantage of it.
Because Lara is so small and still looks very much like a puppy, I tend to treat her that way. She's also really funny when she deliberately defies me and I laugh. Once you laugh, they know they've "got you." She is totally ball obsessed and I throw the stupid thing for her for hours both inside and outside. I'll tell her "no more." She looks at me with her beautiful brown eyes and I melt. I keep throwing the ball.
There is an unwritten law in this house. The dogs food is theirs. Mommy's food is communal property. Anything tasty on mommy's plate is to be shared. Failure to do so results in two sulking canines who consider themselves terribly hard done by. I always give in and share.
I have a double bed which is also communal property. Bed space is assigned by who gets there first (them) and the six inches or so that doesn't have any canine parts on it is mine. Should I get up during the night for some reason, I forfeit my assigned six inches unless I move two canine bodies (both dead weight) over enough to squeeze back into bed.
I have a large cupboard which would put a high quality pet food store to shame. I could last out a war with all the organic cookies, treats, freeze dried chicken breast, pill pockets, chewies, etc. contained in said cupboard. I devote two days every two weeks in the preparation of homemade designer doggie cuisine. Day one is devoted to shopping and chopping. Day two is devoted to cooking, cooling, portioning and freezing.
It has been noted by various friends of mine that my girls have more toys than any two children they've ever seen. I could go on but I'd really look like a nut!
I don't believe in the dominance theory. We're a family. My girls are pretty well my only family.

lol. I love the part about the bed and the food. I know how that is. Me and my husband have to cram ourselves in bed with 2 saint bernards and 4 cats. I just can't say no. I have no clue where we are going to sleep after we get our newest saint bernard. And dinner time around our house....I took pics but i HAVE to find the cord for our camara so i can download the pics. The baby and all of the animals are lined up in front of us waiting for us to give them a sample. Sammie's reasoning is that she has to try everything to make sure it's ok for human consumption. She has to protect me from everything. Another funny thing, if the kids want something, they go to my husband. If the dogs want something they come to me. You can come over and join our family. We would enjoy having you and your puppies.

Wouldn't that be funny! A great big household where dogs rule and humans are second class citizens; there to serve "those who must be obeyed." lol!!! Between the lot of them, we'd be run off our feet and slowly starve to death with the few remaining crumbs on our plates after every dog has liberally sampled the human cuisine! The dogs would have every available bed. We'd be lucky to snag a few paltry air mattresses and some sleeping bags! Gotta love dogs!!!

And, the dogs would hog the TV converter. We'd never get to watch another non-dog related program for the rest of our days!

They have to wrestle the remote from the baby first. I haven't seen anything other than Blue's Clues in weeks.

All those canines against one baby? The poor kid wouldn't stand a chance. They'd probably put the baby out in the back yard so their TV viewing wouldn't be disturbed.

Lol! Maybe. She can create quite a ruckus if she doesn't have her way. My dogs need to watch some episodes of Good Dog U, or It's Me or the Dog. They could really use the education.

I can barely do it now. In a few months, it will be a big no-no. My older saint, Sammie, must have learned from Buster though. She comes up now and buries her head in my lap. Now i have to rock her head. Big babies.

Yes, i regret letting my brother play with my dog roughly... since she is so small he allows her to bit him whenever they play roughly with each other. That's why she bits me also sometimes whenever we are playing with each other.
