We can't get him. With our 3rd saint bernard coming this weekend, we are full. Luna, the new saint bernard, has epilepsy. We took her because we already knew about epilepsy and we knew how to handle seizures. But if any of you guys know of a big dog rescue that could pull this big guy, let me know. I do not like him being in this particular shelter.

He looks like such a loveable guy! How long will it be before you just can't stand it anymore and go pick him up? Since you'll already have three, chances are that your husband won't even notice that you've snuck a fourth one in!

I am sure he will notice. If we get any more, one of us will have to move out to make room. He is soooo close to me. But I don't think we can handle another dog. Especially after we get Luna. We have 1 dog with hip dysplasia and the new one has epilepsy. We cannot afford any more vet bills.

I can certainly understand that. I'd really like to get another JRT but, I'm already paying for insurance for two dogs. I just don't think I can swing the cost of another. Their food is expensive because I try to buy as much of the ingredients locally grown and organic. Sigh...

You know Luna, I had a friend who had an epileptic dog - not the regular seizure type though. This dog just kept throwing up constantly. Eventually, it was diagnosed as a form of epilepsy, as strange as that sounds. He was put on phenobarbital and all the symptoms disappeared and he lived a long and happy life until my friend took him up to cottage country and he contracted leptospirosis. He was gone within 24 hours...However, his type of seizures stopped almost immediately once he went on the medication and it didn't cost much at all. There may yet be room for that other dog...

If you could see the dogs lounging on my furniature and vieing for that perfect spot in bed, you can understand why we wouldn't have space for another dog. I did send an e-mail to the lady who gave me Sammie, though. She didn't want to give Sammie up, but she had a court order to find a home for Sammie outside of the county or have her put to sleep. Sammie is dog aggressive towards little dogs, and the neighbors little toy dog dug under the fence and was trying to bite the kids and Sammie attacked it and killed it. So that is how we ended up with Sammie. So I sent an e-mail to that lady explaining that there is an adult house tranied saint bernard in the shelter that needs rescued. I hope she gets her e-mail soon and goes to get him.

I hope so too!!! Why do you think that Sammie doesn't like little dogs?

She was attacked by the neighbor's little dog when she was little. She has little scars on her nose from it.

Personally, I think the neighbor's dog should have been rehomed and not Sammie. People don't realize that even though they are little, they should be taught manners too. Little dogs are not cats.

I hope when a pet owner decides to get a pet regardless if its a dog or not will make sure that they will take care of the animal as much as they can. I know that there are people who really dont want to part with their pets and there are other instances that they need to give up their dog. What i cant stand is those people who just keep a pet or a dog just because it is cute or look good.

I totally agree with you. Being small is not an excuse for being a bully! However, in this case, Sammie being rehomed meant that you got her so, maybe things worked out for the best.

We love her to death, but I feel so bad for the lady that had to give her up. She is coming this week sometime to visit with Sammie after her kids get out of school.

I don't understand. Sammie was the victim. Why was she given away? Was the little dog hurt?

She killed the little dog after it bit one of the kids. That's why she was rehomed.
