I've been sick for a while. Today I went to see the Cleveland Indians play. We bought the tickets a long time ago. When I came home, my voice was completely gone. (Back to the doc tomorrow...) I sprawled out on the floor when I got home to stretch my all my aching muscles and relax after being crammed in the car for 6 hours and Luna came up and sat on my chest. I couldn't move her. I didn't have a voice to tell her to move. And I couldn't breathe. So I gave her a really good swat on the rear end. She just bent her head down and licked me. So I gave her one more really hard swat on the rear end. She moved finally. I do not like to smack my dogs. Does anyone know what I could do differently so I don't have to swat Luna?


PS. Luna didn't take it to heart. As soon as I sat on the sofa, she climbed in my lap.


But I need to do something about Luna. Her sitting on my chest when I lay down is going to kill me one day.

Luna appears to be under the impression that she's a teacup yorkie! The only thing I can think of is try to be very observant and the second you see her trying to climb on you, say no and move. Once she's managed to get on top of you, you've become a "captive audience." (Literally!) Maybe you need to discourage her from sitting in your lap. She probably doesn't know the difference.

Not sure of an answer to stop her from doing it--May think of something later, BUT in mean time maybe have a treat in hand when you think she will be trying to sit on you---Hey this might stop it from happening again (eventually!) too. Tell her to get off and let her see the treat---Don't give it to her till she gets off or in beginning if you can't get her off 1st ----Throw the treat so she will have to get off to go get it. At least she will be off you! The only prob. I see with throwing treat before she gets off is that she will think if she sits on you she is going to get a treat! So best to work on getting her off 1st if you can. (You get the 'drift' of what I'm indicating here I hope) The idea is to get her to learn to not sit on you at all!

First off, I just wanted to say that your dog is absolutely beautiful!!! I have a warm heart for saints. I would love to have one.

I dont really have any advise to give but I could tell that you was feeling very badly about swatting her. You shouldnt be to hard on yourself!! You did what you had to do in what couldve been a serious situation. I dont like smacking my dogs either but I know I wouldve done the same thing if it was me. Im sure Luna completely forgives you and probably has already been forgotten.

You know, she's such a BIG girl that I bet she hardly even felt it! I know you wouldn't have done it if there was any other possible way. Luna (the dog, not you) has to be pretty heavy and she could hurt you by sitting on you like that without even meaning to.

With all due respect to Corky/Max who I have the utmost respect for, I have to disagree with the whole treat thing. It just may have the opposite effect and encourage her to sit on you even more since there is a treat involved. In my opinion, prevention is the way to go. Don't let it happen in the first place.

Lol. Not letting her sit on me will only work when I am awake. She likes to wait until I am sleeping and sit on me too. I couldn't tell her to get off of me. I lost my voice. All I could do was squeak. She thought that was a cute noise. I didn't find it amusing.
