Was wondering something...
This is going to be my first winter living in town with dogs that are bigger than chihuahuas. The only sidewalk is in front of my house and the neighbor's. When I take my dogs for walk, I normally just make sure we all stay off of the road but I don't walk the dogs far enough onto other people's properties around here to cause any problems. In fact, most people look forward to seeing my "horses." How do I walk them in the winter time when there is more than a foot of snow on the ground and there is no sidewalk? Do I just not walk them when there is too much snow out? Do I just let them out back to romp and then walk them again after the snow melts? I never had to walk my chihuahua. He refused to go out when it was cold. But I'm sure my saint bernards would love the snow.

This may sound 'funny', but it could maybe work. These dogs weigh enough that they could easily pull you--You sitting on a sled or some kind of wagon/vehicle and treat them as if they were horses or sled dogs and let them pull you! May be some kind of training involved but sled dogs do it so it has to be doable! Maybe can find some kind of info on the net. Lol, give them some extra activity/work too, so they will settle down after and won't be sitting on you! If they don't get enough exercise this winter--they will prob. be more trouble in the house because of boredom and not enough exercise.
Lol, Most of those people who look forward to seeing your 'horses' will prob. take a 2nd look!

Let them walk ahead of you, side by side. They'll break a nice trail for you!

Both are great ideas. I'll have to wait until next year for the sled idea. One dog is too old for that and the other two are too young. And as for letting my dogs go in front of me, as soon as I put the leash on, they all heal and don't go in front of me for any reason. I guess I trained them too good not to pull. But I think I might get them to go in front of me with a little bit of training. I can attach a milk jug to Buster. He always tries to run from it when I do that. I think it freaks him out a little that something is following him.

Those big dogs would love pushing through a foot of snow, I use to have one and he had no problem basically like a snow blow. As for you just wear some snow shoes or follow thier path!
