My 1 year old black lab/shepard is pregnant, Will she be okay?!
My one year old black lab/shepard Lucy got pregnant. Its the first time shes been in heat. The father is my almost 3 year old mutt. We found them mating a few times an he is unneutered. I am almost guarenteed she is pregnant. But will she give birth alright and will the puppies be healthy?? Im kinda lost on what to do, ive never dealt with this stuff before. My Lucy

Sigh...You have no idea what on earth you're doing and yet you allowed your cross-breed to become pregnant. The time to worry about these issues was BEFORE you allowed your dog to breed indiscriminately!

Talk to a vet. If it is a false call (or after the puppies come) get them both fixed.

I certainly hope you find good homes for the puppies and they do not end up in a shelter.

Unfortunately doesnt sound like an accident to me.
The dogs were caught mating a few times! After seeing it once they should have been totally seperated, not allowed to continue to tie a few more times.
I dont feel sorry for the owner, I do feel sorry for the dog.
See the vet and consider having her spayed now while they are still tiny and unformed. Then you can also neuter your male. He is 3 and she is 1 and neither were fixed and kept togehter to boot. Very irresponsible.

I did answer your question. My opinion was to have her spayed now before the pups are formed.
Douchebag? I'm not the one who let 2 un-altered mixed breeds and breed 'a few times' then come here acting worried. Should have stopped it after witnessing one tie, not let it continue. Who's the douchebag now? :?:

Douchebag??? There is a word I haven't heard since the 70's! LOL BTW, adults do not need to call people names in order to get there point (whatever it is...) across. That kind of behaviour is childish and inappropriate.

Pregnant Female
Take her to the vet, get the pregnancy confirmed and get her desexed immediately. She can be desexed while pregnant but it can be a little riskier - depending on how pregnant she is.
Talk to your vet but a 1 year old large breed dog is not more mature enough herself to go through a pregnancy.
Do you have a spare couple of thousand in case she need emergency surgery (usually late a night where emergencies are more expensive) when the pregnancy may go wrong?
In the mean time - get the male desexed also.
Surely you realised that an entire male and female together usually means puppies ... if not then have a chat to your parents about the "birds and the bees".

She will be fine, and if you think you are not ready with the incoming puppies, get her fixed, vets know when it will be so bring her immediately. It's the best choice out there specially thinking about those thousands of homeless dogs and pups suffering in many ways, because of irresponsible and/or too late reactions of this kind of problem. Please be part of the solution rather than part of the problem.

So, maybe now you are willing to stop name calling and take the advice that you've been given.
