Dog hates car rides

I have a Cardigan Welch Corgi/Jack Russel Cross. He didn't seem to mind riding in the car when he was a puppy. He is now 1 1/2 yr old and hates to ride. When we take him in the car he pants, won't eat or drink. He didn't used to even pee but does now. When we put his leash on him to go for a ride he picks up the lease and tries to hide. He does not seem to get sick. We have his bed in the vehicle and he can see out. Anyone have this problem and what do we do to make car rides enjoyable for him?

Did you go for a long time with out taking hiom for a ride? I used to take my puppy for rides all the time but then due to circumstances beyond my control I didn't get to take him for rides much, now he is a year and a half and doesn't like to ride too much but the more we take him the better he gets. The same with walking him. I hope this helps. also I am new to this forum so i hope i am posting this reply correctly.

I want to qualify this with I recognize I am not an expert, this is based off of personal experience, but have you tried using a small treat plus lots of praise for getting in the car? Like start with just getting him excited to go in and out of the car using rewards, then move toward longer times in the car? My pup was very fearful of leaving the apt and riding in, cars, elevators so I tried this and it worked, and now he is excited to go on 'trips'. I would just get him in the car, give him a treat, love on him for a few mins, then get out, just to get him comfortable.
