Default Dog Urinated in Her Crate

Hello everyone!

I am new to this site and desperate for some advice.

My little coonhound just could not hold it in and urinated in her crate. She has an extremely strong urine odor and we have washed her twice with an oatmeal shampoo. I can still smell, strongly, urine on her.

Does anyone know what I can do to at least reduce the smell? Any home remedies?

Thanks so much for your advice.

Shannon

Hi Shannon, is this a young puppy? Reason I ask is that I had a similar problem with my bull mix pup just up until recently (he is now 4 months old). For washing his bedding, I used simple solution cleanser prior to washing his bedding with regular laundry detergent. Ultimately though, I think it was a matter of age since he now holds it in his crate for 6 hours during the night and I had not changed his routine. It was really tiring to constantly clean urine for two months straight every couple hours, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. To bathe him, I use bed head puppy shampoo and it seems to get the smell out. If he is older, hopefully someone else on this site can help or maybe call your vet for advice.

the food that you give to your dog also has an effect on the smell of their urine.

Actually, she is an adult dog and I guess she could not hold it in.

We feed her Beneful from Purina.

Bed Head is the name of the shampoo?

the best way to solve this problem is to train ur dog to urinate at the proper place! so take her to that place every 2 hrs, and if she pee, give her a tap on her head and a food to eat to encourage her repeating that behavior.
