Default Looking for your thoughts...

Our 12 year old chihuahua (Ivy) is behaving strangely... pain must be the cause, but we can't tell from where.

She is a fairly spunky dog normally, but lately she'll stop and look at you, turn her head sideways and start leaning that way, then just lay down wherever she is with her head cocked to the side.

20 minutes later... she'll be back to normal. Then it repeats...

We are going to take her to the vet soon but wanted to hear if anyone has any thoughts or similar experiences with anything like this.

Happy new year everyone!

No expert but a few quick thoughts after reading your post. And glad you are taking her to the vet SOON! Could be ear infection---Does she scratch her ear(s)---Can you smell her ear(s)! From the amount of your description hard to say but could she be having a seizure----Many different kind and ways of showing this. And don't forget that your dog is a senior now and prone to more problems. Hope the vet can give you a good answer and can 'fix' it fast!

No ear infection, plenty of experience with those. There is no smell, and she doesn't respond negatively to any sort of poking or prodding. Seems to be favoring her hip, but then she'll jump off the couch seemingly fine minutes later.

This all happened last night and she seems fine so far this morning.

What you are describing is most likely neurological. As recommended, a vet appt to be sure. Good luck.
