I watched a couple of episodes and decided early on that I didn't like his methods. My view was reaffirmed when I found out he is the subject of at least two lawsuits for injuring animals at his facility.

My Mood: | I recently have watched a few of his shows. I get the feeling he has let things go to his head and thinks he knows everything and is overbearing. Maybe he didn't start out that way--I don't know but even the introduction to his shows turn me off! He may have some good ideas to learn from but he is too rough the way he handles some dogs! Lol, 'puffed up' little dictator. Victoria Stillman is too bossy with the pet owners but does a good job with the dogs. What do you think of the show --think it is called Pitbull Boss--something on that order with the midget Shorty? It is on Animal Planet. He doesn't really train dogs, but rescues pitbulls. |

Can't stand Ceasar Milan. The only thing I can say in his defence is that he tells people watching the show not to copy his methods! I do like Victoria Stilwell but I do think there is a danger in people watching a tv show and trying to replicate the behaviour on their own dogs at home. All dogs are different and so are people. You need to find what works for you and your dog - not just something you've seen someone else do. There is no substitute for a good training/socialisation class.

He is not that rough with them, people tell me rub the dogs nose is any accidents shout at thm hit them!! this does not work and he does not do this..
main thing he has taught me is that dogs need lots of exercise to burn of the energy - can start walking the dogs next week will take them out twice a day for 45 mins a time and see if it works

well Im glad that is what you picked up from the show. That your dogs need exercise! I wish thats all most people pick up from his adverse training techniques.
His show is being BAN in other countries bc he IS too rough w/ his technique! His technique is considered "adversive and outdated" by the AVSAB (American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior) who is also working on getting it banned in America (prob wont happen though, his ratings are too high). He has had countless lawsuits (more than 2) and Nat Geo only shows the gentler side of him. There was a leaked tape where he kicked a dog and "hung him" by his choke chain until the dogs eyes rolled back and his tongue turned blue! So dont say he his not too rough!
I do have to admit though, I do agree with him as far as most dog problems stem from lack of stimulation (physical and mental). And we mess a lot of dogs up by not teaching them what we want out of them, but trust me there are MANY other ways of getting your message accross then laying them down to submission...
Sorry this topic really gets me upset, i wasnt even going to respond... But it is not your fault, millions of people view in every week to watch his show that feeds the fire.. you are impressed with how hollwood "portrays" his success, not the actual truth.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Ceasar. But I am also smart enough to know what is going to work for my dog and what isnt. The majority of hints about how to train my little guy, that have come from Ceasar, have worked just fine. Some of the success have come from common sense. And please investigate those allegations of injuries attributed to Ceasar before painting him with such a brush, there is more to those stories then the media at first relates. He wouldnt be where he is today, if he didnt hold the safety and well being of each and every breed of dog in the utmost priority.
