Now I've discovered how to add photos
I thought I would introduce my dogs properly:-D
First of all Toffee - we know nothing of her background. She is at least 11 years old, could be older. She is an old lady and loves her comfort. We think she has GSD and Staffie in her background. From the noise she makes when she sings there could be beagle in there too.
Ojo is a Jack Russell cross Patterdale and Manny is my Jack Russell. He is my pride and joy but a very poor example of the breed! As a black dog Ojo is sooo hard to photograph.

Nooooooo! I need to wear my glasses! Didn't realise Toff's head was missing in that pic! I'll get my glasses on and find a good one. She is beautiful - honest!
Here's a better photo of my old lady - she decided to take her supper bowl to bed last night.

Enjoyed seeing photos of your dogs. Loved their names too--Toffee definitely is an excellent name for her and I'll bet she is a nice sweet ole' girl--She looks calm and gentle! Is Ojo a little 'scrapper'---just guessing--prob. the black color makes me lean that way. And like you I prob. would like Manny the most. I prefer his long hair anyway to start with. (I have cockers)--even though this hair is everywhere--just love petting it! Can Manny be a little stinker too--mischievous? How old is Manny and Ojo?Nice looking family!

Thank you Yes, Toffee is the kindest, most gentle dog you could wish for. I once threatened to rehome my son because he bit her! (He was only a baby at the time and she was so gentle with him). Ojo is the most challenging dog I have ever owned. She is a real man's dog and so has zero respect for me. My husband is her hero and she will do anything he asks but I struggle to get her to do anything. She doesn't scrap at all - very outgoing, very friendly with anyone and everyone. She is the one that visitors say they want to take home with them!
Manny is shy and reserved with strangers but he is my cuddle monster. His mother was an ordinary broken coated JR, all the other pups in the litter were smooth and when he was about 10 months his hair just started to sprout. His father apparently was smooth coated so I don't know where the hair comes from (unless mum was naughty and had an assignation with another dog before being mated with the stud).
His hair is very silky - a bit like a Yorkie in texture. When he gets dirty his coat dries and the mud disappears. Every spring I talk about getting him hand stripped but I haven't got round to it yet. We'll see what happens in a couple of months but he is such a couch potato, rarely pants, rarely gets het up about anything, so maybe he can stay long and hairy through this summer as well.

Yogi can tell you best about that posibility!

I admit I don't know much about exactly what hand stripping is but have heard it is best not to cut their hair as it is actually helps keep them cooler-insulation. I also heard that a dog should not be shaved (heard too late as My cocker was shaved and the hair does not come back right---Don't have as many mats (matts?) now but hair is just too straight for a cocker and it is still unruly and I think actually a little coarser. I had never had him to a groomer before and she stated she would have to shave him--I will never go back to her again--I think she also slapped him on the nose as when I came back he was bleeding from the nose. The vet had to give him a shot to stop the bleeding! She tried to say it was just from excitement--Which I do not believe---He has never had a nose bleed before or since! She did a sh*t*y job of shaving too as my back yard neighbor even commented on it! Enough about this--I get carried away sometimes, sorry! But just thought I'd tell you about what I have been told .

How awful - hard to believe that excitement would cause a one off nosebleed - my dogs get excited all the time and I've never seen one with a nose bleed.
My friend has recommended a groomer but I want to be sure that he will be hand stripped and not clipped. His coat (although disqualifying him as a show dog!) is so lovely I would hate to see it spoilt.
