Default Sea Robin

Several years ago I bought a Sea Robin. The proper name for it is a Flying Gurnard. My electric went out and he died. All of my fish died. I have called every pet store within a 50 mile radius to try to find another one and nobody has ever heard of one. So any of you guys own a saltwater aquarium? Do you know where I can order one of these pretty, pretty fish?

Well, I sat down and did some research for you, and buy these must be pretty rare fish! I couldn't find them anywhere. Here are a few sites I finally found where they are out of stock currently but you can put your email in for one and they will email you when the fish comes into stock and you could contact the other and inquire;

Saltwater Aquarium Fish for Marine Aquariums: Flying Gurnard

Oriental Flying Gurnard | Pet Solutions

Wait! Looks like I just found a site where they are in stock!

Ing's Ocean - Cozumel - Flying Gurnard

lol. The Ing's Ocean one is for a picture. Not the actual fish. That's why they are in stock.

I did, however, tell the other two companies to e-mail me when they have some in stock. I didn't realize how rare they were. I bought mine at a local mom and pop pet shop here that went out of business. I thought they were pretty common seeing as how I saw mine in my tank everyday. I didn't realize how hard it was to get one. The one I had was worth every penny I paid for it though. he was so pretty.

Wow! That is a beautiful creature. I don't know much about fish but, I understand that keeping a salt water tank is a very complex process.

Only the setup is complex. After that all you do is once a month waterchange and add salt until your specific gravity is between 1.021 and 1.027. Easy peasy.

I'll keep looking and see if I find anything else. No luck so far.

Looks like I may have found something. You just need to sign up to their mailing list or whatever for pricing info;

Marine Fish - Blennies - ORIENTAL FLYING GURNARD - SilentdreamMarine.com - (Powered by CubeCart)

By the way, do they spread out their fins or something because some don't look like the ones in your pic?

Just found another site!! Finally having some luck! Shipping rates are pretty insane though.

es, they spread tham out when they swim. Looks like they are birds in the water. Hence the nic Sea Robin.

I knew they must have been named sea robins for a reason

What a beautiful fish! I, too would love to have a saltwater aquarium but have always heard the same thing--very difficult to set up and keep. Also expensive!

What a shame you lost all your fish, I'm so sorry.

I could be wrong but what I've heard is they are hard to set up but easier to maintain than freshwater aquariums.

I have never saw a Sea Robin before... They're beautiful! I have both saltwater and freshwater aquariums and neither were difficult to set up and both are easy to maintain. You just have to educate yourself before hand, so you know what you are getting yourself into.

Saltwater is alot to set up but after you get it going it's very easy to maintain. The larger tank you get the easier it is to look after. I know it sounds backwards, but it's the truth. Smaller tanks get colder easier and heat up too fast and get dirty quicker.
