Talking I'm going to be a grandma! HAHA!

Okay so if you read my post in Rainbow Bridge, you all know that I am battling a very hard decision regarding my eldest dog, Sassy.

On a lighter note, I have 2 other dogs as well. Weasie, (basset-hound/dachshund mix) and a full blooded Chocolate Chihuahua (hellion lol) February 10th, We saw them two locked up, butt to butt, and yeah, Ive been taking very good care of her, shes getting the queen treatment lol, and loving it might i add, The following day after i saw them 2 hooked up, the Chihuahua was in the vets office getting his little hiney fixed! =) So, no more daddy for him.

She is showing now, such a cute little preggy belly, and so sweet and loving, she rolls over and lets me rub her belly and talk to her and she is just eating it up and enjoying every second of it, while bookie is over in the corner looking at me like, Mommy, why have you betrayed me, Then, I call him over to join the little party and he is just fine, As long as he knows he is apart of the situation, he is just fine and content.

So with this being said, Im going to be a grandma! HAHA. Weasie is 5 and he is just now 11 months old, Im very excited and looking forward to my new grandchildren lol, I will be posting pictures!!! But untill those little sweet precious angels get here, I will show you the mama and the daddy, and tell me what you think!

They are both beautiful dogs but what a huge risk you are taking. Five is old for a first litter. I hope nothing goes wrong and your bitch survives. I must be honest and say I do not understand how anyone could allow their dogs to mate like that - if she was mine she would have been straight to the vets for the morning after pill. Although I doubt that would have happened if they were mine because she would have been spayed at the earliest opportunity anyway.

Do you have homes lined up for the pups? With all the wonderful pure bred dogs in shelters everywhere I would imagine it wont be easy to rehome a litter of mongrels/mutts no matter how cute they are.

I don't understand your reasoning for deliberately breeding crossbreeds.

Congrats on becoming a grandma, but you are also taking a risk because the father is only 11 months old which is much too early to mate. Although he may be sexually mature, his organs and such are still developing so this could potentially cause problems in the litter. Just keep your eyes open and be prepared. Dogs shouldn't be bred until after 2 years of age. Some say 3. I don't think that 5 is way too old for the mother but is def. a cut off. Make sure you get them BOTH fixed after this. You can still get them fixed. There are obviously going to be potential risks but you can't have another litter because of their actions behind your back. You obviously cannot keep your eyes on them all the time. I agree with Laura's Mom that you probably shouldn't be breeding mixed breed dogs because of the dog overpopulation issue but congrats nevertheless. I'm sure you are very excited to see the wonders and magic of a life birth first hand!

Yes i do have homes for atleast 5. Trust me it wasn't intentional, i was debating on getting her fixed because she is so heavy anyway and i didnt want her to gain anymore weight, there arent strays around here, but i know strays can come from miles when a female is in heat. I debated on getting the abortion and emergency spay, but i just couldn't bring myself to doing it. It isn't her first litter its her 2nd. Her first one was planned and they all had homes by the time they where born, she had 7 the first time with a purebred, I got him fixed the day after this happened though, and i will be getting her fixed too so there will be no more suprises for me! lol. Apparently around my area, a "Chiwatson" is a popular breed, because everyone ive talked too said they are a cute mix and make a good dog, So im sure i won't have a problem! Thanks for your reply! =]

Yeah i know im taking a big risk here, and thats what i was so afraid of with him being so young. Bookie is fixed already, he gained his manhood, and lost his manhood the same day! LOL! The last time we bred her, I was away and wasnt able to experience her being a first time mother, We bred her with a purebred of course, and from what my parents told me, She was an incredible mother and I cried and cried and cried because i was so far away from home and i wasnt able to see her and be around her while she had the babies or nurse and take care of them, This time I will be able to see it first hand. Weasie is actualy a mixed breed dog, but a mixed breed dog is one of this things that can happen when your back is turned, its nature. I was scared to get her spayed because I know it causes weight gain, and she is already a chunky butt anyway lol, its her breed that makes her big anyway. I think i will get her fixed afterwards though. I am so excited about it I can't wait!!!!! I love my animals very much and I would do anything in this world for all of my animals. Thanks for your advice/input/reply!

Hi Lara!

I can assure you this wasn't deliberate! I didnt get her fixed because she was heavy anyway(bassethound mix) I was so scared because I knew about the weight gain and didnt want her to be unhealthy. I didnt think they physically could mate because of the size difference. I was VERY wrong, that didn't stop that little guy one bit at all. I got him fixed immediatly, so now he is fixed. I will be getting her fixed after she has her babies and is physically ready. Shes such a sweet dog, I cant wait to experience her being a mother, I missed her first time, but i won't miss this one! Im sorry if you though I did this intentionally!

Default Ashley:

Please believe me; it was not my intent to disrespect you in any way. I know what a terrible time you're going through right now and I would never deliberately add to your unhappiness.

I'm always concerned about so called "oops" matings because with the pet overpopulation we're experiencing, it can be very difficult to find homes for the puppies. I'm glad you have some pre-approved homes. I also am worried about the mom because she is already overweight. I hope with all my heart that everything goes well. Perhaps, you may consider keeping one of the pups?

Don't worry about the weight gain. There are many differing opinions about weather there is much truth to this or not but you can always increase the dogs exercise and cut back on the amount of food you are feeding to counteract any potential weight gain problems.

"I didnt think they physically could mate because of the size difference. I was VERY wrong, that didn't stop that little guy one bit at all."

This should serve as a warning to anyone who thinks they can keep a bitch and an entire dog without them mating. I do hope your bitch will be ok.
