Good for you!!! I'm really happy for you! As for a dog, I'm a huge fan of shorty jack Russells and Border Collies. You need to read up on the dog you're thinking of getting to make sure that he/she will be a good fit with your family.

That sounds fun! Whether you should get a pup or a young adult depends a lot on your lifestyle. How much time will you be able to give it during the day? Will there be someone home most of the day? Then you need to think about your hobbies/things you like to do - do you spend a lot of time reading or on the computer or watching tv? Do you like to be out and about in the open air? All these are things that are relevant when you choose your perfect dog. I know you said you don't want a mini dog but don't dismiss the Jack Russell - they have huge personalities and attitude in their little bodies.

Awesome!!!!!

There are many factors to take into consideration when choosing the right breed of dog for you such as personality, size, coat, energy level, etc. Here's a thread where this was discussed in depth...

Hey hey

it seems in a prior post that you noted you were probably not going to college. Now that you are, are you sure it is the best time to get a new dog. Pups or dogs require a lot of time especially in the first few months. Being in college and with studies etc. will inevitably be a distraction from time need for a dog. I would re-think getting one until you are sure your schedule can support both school and dog. As others have noted also, getting the right breed for your lifestyle is then the next key issue.

I fully agree with Yogi. Dog's take a lot of time and effort! They are worth it, but I think it would be hard to give them the attention they need while going to school full time unless the dog was house broken and older than a year. Just my opinion.
