Can't believe I'm nervous
As a former breeder of Akita's,having dogs all my life and having many of them neutered I can't believe I'm nervous...
Seigi my Akita puppy who's a little over 4mths is going in to be neutered on the 14th and I'm so nervous...Not to mention he goes in at 8 am and I can't pick him up until at least 4 pm...I don't know what I'll do not having him home all day...Don't get me wrong his vet is great and I've got the utmost trust in her but it still makes me nervous...
To top it off I can't feed or water him in the AM and that makes me feel awful because he's always starving in the morning...They did say though that I can bring him a half of a cup of food but that that's also all I can give him for his night time meal which will totally p*** him off...He has a ravinous appetite...
So am I being silly or just a concerned fur kid mom?

when my rat terrier went in to be fixed i was nervous too! she's a daddy's girl and i wasn't there when she woke up. it broke my heart leaving her there all day but when i picked her up she licked my face letting me know she was happy to see me.

I know what you mean...I'm going to hate leaving him all day!...The longest he's been away from us and that's because we had errands to do was 4 hr.s...Not to mention all though he totally loves my vet he gets very nervous when he goes there..
I wish I could wait until he was a little older and not so afraid of things but my contract say he has to be done by 6 mths and the more he weighs the more expensive it is and he's already over 40 lbs.

Sounds like a perfectly normal reaction to me :-) Just remember though it will be far worse for you than it will be for him.

When we had our male dog neutered at five and a half months, I was a WRECK! However, he had come to us as a stray, was already nearing 60 lbs., and was starting to display some dominance, so I knew it was in his best interest. I called several times throughout the day to check on him, but I was not content until I could see him with my own eyes and know that he didn't hate me
I think what you're experiencing is completely normal, or else we're both totally abnormal, lol. Like you said, you trust your vet, and you just have to keep the big picture in mind and do what is best for your "son" in the long run.

LOL...I think my problem is since I was a breeder my females usually weren't spayed until around the age of 5 yr.s when I retired them and any puppy I've had I've gotten from shelters so they were already fixed,,,I've never had a puppy done...Plus I'm not going to be use to not having him home all day...
As it is since hubby really didn't have much dog knowledge until we got together (been married 9 yr.s) he's not at all happy Deigi's getting fixed no matter how many times I tell him the benefits...Must be a macho thing...LOL

Being a former breeder might give you extra feeling of nervous but as you said the vet is great, things will got smoothly. Just prepare yourself to care a lot for him when the op is done, he might be in sad condition but believe everything's going to be just fine.

LOL I felt the SAME way 2 weeks ago!! I have a 6 month old Akita. He went in 2 weeks ago to be neutered and I was a wreck! What made it worse is that they have to keep them overnight here. I couldn't sleep at all that night. I kept thinking that HE was probably thinking I left him for good. The vet told me to be there at 7:30 a.m. that morning and I was up and ready at 5 a.m. I was so glad to see him! He did great, and healed well. It's like he didn't even have surgery. They said no running or jumping for a week, but he still tried his best! LOL. Hope all went well!!

Yes it is Yogi and since I've had more ups then downs lately I can't complain!...
I'm just nervous about getting him fixed hubby on the other hand is quite unhappy...While he knows it's better for Seigi health wise and actually temperment wise since Akita's are prone to aggression problems not to mention I'm under contract to have him done by 6 mths he feels it's not fair to Seigi.....I guess he's letting his own machoness rule his brain...LOL

Difficult
It's hard knowing what they are going through and not being able to be there for them. You just need to remember that it's actually a good thing that you are doing for him and worth a little short term heartache

Well poor Seigi came home yesterday walking like a drunken sailor when he wasn't falling flat on his face...I could tell when he would look at me with this blank stare in his eyes that he had no idea what was wrong him and why he couldn't walk right and you could tell it scared him a bit..
Anyway,he slept the rest of the afternoon and all night and I felt so bad for him until this morning that is!
He woke me up making all this noise at 8:30 in the morning and as I look at my bedroom door he's standing on the couch looking at me with my brand new brush in his mouth...So I get up to check out the damages and he also has on of my candles,an ash tray and a cup on the couch with him and on the floor is another cup, another ash tray my reading glasses and the remote control..I get it all picked up trying not to laugh at the look he's giving me and right in front of me he grabs my brush again, walks away and puts it in his toy box...I retrieve the brush, correct him and start to walk away and he grabs the remote from off the arm of the couch...
I swear they must have given the little brat devil pills and not pain pills...He cleared of my whole coffee table and had a whole lot of fun doing it...My husband said he was getting back at me for having him neutered...LOL

Ah yes, the after effect of a good 24 hour drunk spree. Get up and feel full or yourself and full of everything you can get your mouth on.....
