Default Neutered male puppy marking territory and almost lifting leg

My puppy came from the SPCA and was neutered at 4 months. Quite recently, I have noticed that when we go for walks he frequently pees a little every so many feet and is extremely attentive to smelling where other dogs may have marked. Twice he almost lifted his leg, at least it was not on the ground.

Is it at all possible that when he was neutered an error was made and he wasn't, or that he healed?

Short of surgery, is there a way to tell?

A lot of male dogs will still mark even if they're neutered..It's not uncommon and most male dogs lift their legs to pee neutered or not.

Default Mine are neutered and always mark

My males dogs, always neutered, have always marked. Some lift their legs, some squat. They all mark. Just be glad he doesn't like to eat his poop.

I here you there on the poop eating. We have a mini aussie that loves going around eating poop...it is such a gross habit. Hopefully the anti-poop eating tablets I just bought will help

male dogs lefting there leg to urinate is a learned behavior. It is trying to get that dogs pee higher than another. The pee that is highest on the tree or pole is the dominate scent. I wouldnt purposely teach my dog to do this.... in fact many ppl dont want there dog to do this.

To the best of my knowledge, he has never seen another dog do this. I don't want him doing it either, actually.
