Very Worried for my Bichon
My 2 year old Bichon is 5 weeks pregnant. Today she has had a show and panting heavily and seems very restless, looking for quiet corners to nap. Helppppp I am worried she is going into premature labour or is this normal

This is a question for a vet. Getting info from a dog forum that should come from a vet could be very dangerous for your dog. I would suggest taking your dog to a vet. Is this your first time breeding your dog? If you got your dog from a reputable breeder, they would be able to answer these questions too. Call the breeder where you got your dog and ask them these questions too.

I would never put my dogs in danger and I was waiting for the vet to get back to me as he was out on an emergency. In desperation I came on here just in case somebody could offer some USEFUL advice. This is a planned pregnancy and the vet has been involved since day one. My sister is also a breeder of Shar Peis but I could not get hold of her. Shame on you for jumping to conclusions, I am sorry you felt that my concern for my very much loved pet led me to writing on this forum for help from other dog lovers when I was desperate.
Thank you for your kind words and asking how my pet is, she is fine thank you very much. Oh and by the way it is quite natural for a pregnant dog at around 6 weeks to lose this clear liquid just in case anyone else has this frightening experience.

I wasn't jumping to conclusions. You made no mention of a vet in your original post. You have no idea how many people we get on here wanting us to give out info because they don't want to take their dog to a vet.

Why Margie ? do you think its for financial gain ? sorry to disappoint you but my friend has a male Bichon and her family and mine love the breed so much they wanted one to. Both dogs are very healthy and were vet checked before the mating and when the pups come we are keeping them all in the family and we know they are going to good homes and we will be seeing them regularly. Once again thank you for your concern.
Sorry Lunar I was nursing my girl when I was writing the message I should of put more info in but I was very upset and watching her closely. The vet said she is progressing well and everything is fine I am still worried everytime she moves, but I think thats just normal when they are a much loved pet. I will post some pics when they are born fingers crossed all will be fine

Thanks for your reply .I just see so many loving dogs that are put down that need homes .That is why I adopted my second dog . There are also many rescue groups looking for homes for all sorts of breeds .Glad your little girl is doing o.k.Just wish people would check out all the places where they can get that special pet instead of adding more .

You never did say how old she was or if her and the stud had genetic testing done,or if you have homes for the pups! I'm really not trying to insult you but I myself bred Akita's as well as Yogi being a top of the line breeder so we know what we're talking about...It takes many years of working with a mentor and research to become a reputable breeder..If you're coming to this forum to ask what should be a vet question then obviously you haven't have not done enough research or work with a mentor and not to insult you but breeding a dog just so you can have a puppy is very wrong..There's plenty of those breeds in the shelter looking for a home before they get euthanized...You might want to consider that first...Also was a sonogram done on her? If not and if you skipped the genetic testing then you certainly don't have the knowledge or experience to breed. I think waht disgusts me the most is she's being bred just so you can keep a puppy...You do know that stud fees work one of two ways...You either pay the stud fee their asking for or give them pick of the little...I'm very glad she's doing well however do to you lack of experience and knowledge as well as if the dog is under 2yr.s old you should not be doing this...BTW, are the both registered with the AKC?
Sorry I did see where you posted her age...Do you even know what to feed her during and after her pregnancy?Do you have the money set aside for emergency c-sections? It's not uncommon with smaller dogs...Are you giving her supplements? Can you afford all the worming and their first sat of shots as well has having them seen by a vet before they are sold? That is your responsibility.
