Unhappy Newly spayed Yorkie Poo-owner seeking reassurance

Hi all, I'm a new member and any advice is greatly appreciated.
My 18 month old Yorki Poo was spayed on Friday afternoon. We brought her home Friday evening and although she was dopey she seemed ok. Yesterday morning I have her pain meds and by wary last evening the pain finally set in. She tried to have a bowel movement and screamed bloody murder and gave up. When we brought her in she got into her bed and stayed there for the rest of the night. She cries when anyone tries to touch her below her neck. Today she is just downright pathetic. She finally did have a bowel movement but screamed so loudly that every dog in the neighborhood started barking. Afterward she shook for a while and stayed under my bed, but is finally resting quietly on my chest.
I know all of this is probably what a lot of dogs experience after such a traumatic experience, but I guess I'm just looking for another similar story just to rest my mind a bit.
I apologize for this being so long.

It sounds to me as though the pain meds aren't working well enough, or something's wrong that is causing more pain than they can handle. It's been several years since I've had to spay my girls, but I don't remember them having such a hard time with pain while medicated.

Perhaps your vet was just super conservative because of her size.

Like I said, it's been a while - so someone with more recent experience would be able to shed more light - but it's never a bad idea to check with the vet anyway. She should be able to manage if she's on pain meds.

I wanted to add - I know weekend vets can be outragious - if that's a problem, as long as she's hydrated and not having labored breathing she should be fine until Monday. If by Monday there's no improvement, call the vet for some advice (that is if someone else here can't give you something before then).

Thanks for the reply. I agree that the vet was super conservative with her meds. I'm definitely calling in the morning though.
So tough to see your babies in discomfort.

When my Ella got spayed i didnt even give her any medications bc the vet told me give it to her only if she acts like shes in pain and if they dont feel any pain they may do more than they can handle. Needless to say my dog was never in that much pain that i could tell so i never gave her any of the pain meds. I was just get ur dog to the vet just to make sure everything is ok. Please keep us updated and im sure ur furbaby will be fine.

Do you keep food down or measure out her meals for her? I think since passing a stool seems to cause so much pain right now, I would give her very small meals more frequently rather than larger meals 2 or 3 times a day. Maybe even not feed her at all until you speak to your vet - if she's drinking her water, then a 18-24 hour fast won't harm her.

How is she doing since your first post?

I know this is prob. going to add to your anxieties and I almost decided not to post this--BUT I don't want your dog to become a victim of this med. It is prob. Rimadyl that the vet prescribed. Here is a link to a lot of info on this drug. I hope to God that it is not the cause of your dog's problem.
Please read all the info --especially for symptoms so you can get your dog off of it as quick as possible--It can be a very deadly thing. My dog was neutered and given this while being operated on and I was given more pills to give him 1 a day. (Your dog was prob. given 1 pill when it was being operated on too!) I gave him 1 pill the 1st night (Even though he didn't appear to be in any pain!). He started pacing and looked at me as if to say Help Me--He kept me up all night. I threw the rest of the Rimadyl away!! Please read carefully what these links will tell you in this thread I am giving you! If it were me I would not give this pain pill no matter what---But you have to decide for yourself but this info will at least tell you what to look for. Please check out on any med your dog is prescribed as others may be 'bad' too. Best to do some research before even giving the 1st pill! Here is the link (with many more links listed within it:
Please Do not Give Rimadyl (carprofen)--CAN KILL

I hope your puppy is okay. Please keep us posted as we tend to worry especially if we never hear back. Hoping to hear good news!!

Red face

Hi all. Thank you to everyone for showing such concern for my Penny Muffin. She is doing better today. I called the vet first thing thismorning, he did say that constipation is a side affect of the anestesia and to give her some canned pumpkin to try and soften things up and help things along. As for giving her more pain meds the one she's taking now is once a day but he could give me more of a different kind if she needed. I think at this stage she's okay with the once a day dosage. Her behaviors i described to him didnt seem to alarm him much. He said i could bring her in for a quick check, but i didnt think stressing her out more was what she needed.
We went for a short walk when I got home from work and she even hung around in the kitchen at dinner time to see what scrap she might be able to con out of us with her pathetic eyes. She's not happy when we pick her up(can't say I blame her).
She's eating and drinking, she's just a grumpy diva.
