Default The pound

The county that I live in has a shelter and a pound. They are right next door to each other. We got our pyrenees at the pound. When we went there, most of the kennels were empty. I figured that most dogs must be outside for potty or something. The lady said that they don't have dogs to put in them. She said that more people come in looking to adopt dogs than there are dogs to adopt. That is a wonderful thing. And a few of the dogs at the pound already had their adoption fee paid for by a little old lady, so the dog would be free to the person who wanted to come in and get it. Wouldn't it be nice if the rest of the shelters and pounds were like that?

It would be but you have to remember that pounds are subsidized by the city or county where rescues are strictly non profit and rely on contributions and sale of rescues to cover their expenses ie: spay/neuter, vaccinations, and general medical care. Feasibly, there is no way it would work for a rescue.

No, I'm talking about there being so few dogs to adopt that the demand is always greater than what the rescue/shelter/pound has. And there are some people in this town that pay the adoption fee for certain very good natured dogs so the person that wants to adopt it doesn't have to pay the the adoption fee. There is a golden at the pound now that has had the adoption fee already paid and it just needs someone to come and sign adoption papers and take it home. I think that it is great that a person will pay the adoption fee so a complete stranger will be more likely to adopt the dog.

yay that would be great if it was really like that everywhere. Unfortunately as long as ppl think there breeders keep on breeding that will never happen. We get at least 2 litters dropped off at the shelter i volunteer at a week. Its so sad. But hopefully one day the only breeders will be reputable breeders and there are empty cages at our shelters.

Our Humane Society receives no government funding at all. All of the money they receive comes from donations, the sale of animals, subscriptions to their magazine and, various fundraising events that happen throughout the year.
