Default how do you get over losing a dog?

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has lost a dog and it has never been found. This happened to me years ago, but recently I've been thinking about him again and I just can't get over it.
I had a 3 year old german shepherd (zac), and we had such a strong bond. I was trying to find a place to rent that would allow me to have a dog, which was really difficult. I ended up paying a friend of a friend to look after zac until I found somewhere. The first day I took him there, by the time I got back to my car he was climbing in with me. He had found the only open window in the house, jumped out and ran to me. I took him back. I would visit him and take him for walks, but I was sick one week so didn't get there. When I visited with more food, they told me he had run away 5 days before! I feel so guilty that I didn't visit earlier that week, and so guilty that he trusted me and I left him in a house where he was unhappy. He was a really sensitive, emotional dog. He was not a runaway type, so he must've been unhappy. I searched for him for months, and never found him. The not knowing, the guilt and sadness for him eats away at me at times. I guess I just needed to share with people who may understand. I told my sister I'm still not over losing zac, about 2 years after he was gone, and she said "it's just a dog". It's not! He was the most loyal, loving individual I've ever met. I miss him

I used to have a poodle named Puddles and my landlord left the gate open to my apartment and he got out and I never did find him. I certainly hope someone took him in and gave him a nice home and he didn't get hit by a car or something.

Yes. He got lost about 6 years ago. I was seriously bummed about not finding him and pissed at the landlord. I moved as soon as I could and broke my lease to get out of there with the rest of my pets.

I once had a JRT named Jake. He was not my dog..No, Jake was my best friend. He had a bad habit of escaping and going into town (3 miles away) and I'd find him with a pack of dogs following a female in heat. He stayed at home most of the time until the wind got right, bringing him the scent of a female from afar. He left once and I was never able to find him. He was 4 years old and I raised him from the womb. I have never "Gotten Over" him. I still shed tears today when I think of him, and he has been gone now for 6 years. I now have another Jack Russell, Murphy who will never replace my "Jake" but has found his own way to set roots to my heart. I know I must be a glutton for punishment, because I'm 50 years old and I know that someday Murphy and I must part.... and I know to well what that is going to feel like.

Yes, it was really hard to lost something you lo care and love. I used to own a siberian husky before. I named her pola. She was very lovable. I used to put her in a cage but one day, she went out of the house because the gate was open and suddenly lost. I and my family looked for her around the community but we had no luck finding her. Maybe some bad guy get her. I was really upset and I've been sad for weeks.
