I think you have made the right decision for him. I don't know about the pain killer - my vet didn't prescribe anything when Manny was neutered. But he was fine anyway.

It is normal for them not to want to eat anything or very little the day after the surgery. And its normal for them to sleep alot. He should feel a little better tomorrow and then each day will improve until hes his old self again.

Seigi was neutered at a little over 4 months and he was the same way...Because of the affects of the anesthesia all he did was lay around and slepp but come 8 am the next morning he was up and running around like a crazy person...As for the pain killer I'm assuming it's Rymadil which is an anti inflammatory and it's caused harm to a lot of dogs especially used long term...I was given it for Seigi and used it for his first day home with no problem but by the 2nd he felt so much better he didn't need...Your pups behavior is normal so don't be to cincerned!

Yes I hope you aren't meaning Rimadyl ---Which is the bad med!! You could call your vet and ask what you were given---I never heard of whatever you are trying to say here and hoping it isn't Rimadyl. As Ree has said and I have experienced too--Your dog prob. doesn't need the pain killer anymore---so if it were me, I would just not give it anymore! After the way my dog acted---panting and pacing and looking at me as if to say Help Me--after I gave him that killer/crap--Kept me up all night--I threw the rest in the garbage! He didn't appear to be in pain in the 1st place but I was following what the vet said to do. My vet has it on my dog(s) records to never give Rimadyl and he did give it at time of operation also automatically---So now I said never give it again and he uses something else--Tramadol.
Please Do not Give Rimadyl (carprofen)--CAN KILL

You can take it off just be sure to watch him and make sure he does not lick or bite at the stiches he has if he does put the collar back on him.
