King of the couch!

It's been awhile since I put up any new Seigi pics, so here's a few. He is now 28 inches and 122lbs so he is now bigger then his dad!

He is sooo handsome. He is ten times bigger than my dog!!!! Did you buy the sofa to match his coat LOL?

Actually that's not so funny - there was a story in the press here last week about a dog returned to a rescue centre because he clashed with the curtains!

Wow Ree those numbers are crazy & at his age to boot! Was he the biggest in the litter? Any idea if his littermates are on the ginormous end too?

That Seigi is a handsome 'dude!' I was thinking the same thing about him kind of blending into the sofa, lol, Sure looks like it is his and he belongs there. Wonder how much more he will grow and can he get any handsomer!

Wow, he's handsome and huge. What is his breed? He looks like a german shepherd or a husky.

He's an Akita....Lange he was about the same size as the rest of his litter and from what the breeder tells me he's at this time the biggest of the 7...He'll be 11 months on the first so he's done growing in height but Akita's don't really stop growing until around 2 yr.s of age as once they hit 2 is when they start to fill out..We all excpect him to hit close to 125-127 lbs by then..

and yes he does go rather well with the couch doesn't he?...lol...I don't know if you guys remember his baby pictures but he was actually more of a gray in color but as do alot of dogs the older he got the lighter he got and he's actually getting a lot of black in his coloring.

I would have guessed more. I thought Akita's fill out a little more (weight/percentage wise) then that by their 2nd year. I don't have experience like you, I go by this chart as an estimate. growth
I think Kuma is about 23". I'm not good at measuring her & not even sure if I'm doing it right. I try to get her up against the wall & mark it (her furriness doesn't help).

I'm actually being a bit conservative..He could very well push it to 130lbs...Make sure when you measure her your doing it at her shoulder/withers and not her head. I find that Seigi's a little more compliant if I do it when he's laying down. He's gotten used to it now though so he's pretty good about standing up and staying still while I do it..

If Kuma is 23" already she should hit the breed standard for a female without a problem.

Thanks Ree. I try measuring her right at the withers, although I have to feel around for her bone. lol She looks heavy with the lc but I 'think' she is it the right body mass of where she should be. It's funny I look at Seigi and other Akitas & I yearn for their coat. Maybe the next one will be standard coat.

Yeah, she is but she is starting to mat so fast. I'm not familiar with this kind of coat, it's reminds me of cotton balls which is super soft but it's hard to comb through with it being long & thick. But like I mentioned to Ree before, she seems to be in between puppy & adult coat. It seems to be taking long to change over. I hope once it does it wont mat so much. I thought Wrigley's was a tough coat but his is silky.

Yes they are. They're not a dog for everyone especially people who are not experienced with the breed or have a lot of experience with dogs. If they are a dog for you though I have to say they're one of the best breeds there are especially when it comes to guarding and loyalty and I will always be owned by one!
