Default Kuma the Akita finally becoming an Akita?

Not sure if anyone missed me! but I had been gone on an extended vacation. When I came home the other day my husband told me that Kuma's bark had changed. Sure enough I got to witness it yesterday when she was barking at the utility guys in my next door neighbors yard. It is DEEP and that threatening bark. So much so that our ever YAPPY Wrigley does not even bother barking anymore! WOOHOO!! BONUS!!... He was the constant barker but it's as though he feels Kuma has it covered...or maybe he feels no one will hear him over her. :P

Before Kuma would just bark a "Hey you! Come here!" kind of bark but now it's a much different message. I didn't think my girl had it in her but she is finally acting on her breed. 14 months old now! Hopefuly this means no more submissive/excited peeing when strangers start baby talking her!!
Maybe she is an Akita afterall...at least 2%??.. ha!

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Same thing happened when Brody (my first Shiloh Shepherd) turned about 10 months old. He scared all of us in the house, and I swear he shook the windows. I may need ear plugs when Keegan (my second Shiloh) gets older.
I would also like to take minute to say "Thank you" for all the nice replies that you have sent to me and all the others that I have read.
I think I'm going to like this. I like to talk about my dogs and all dogs in general.

haha I love the sound of my akita's bark too. VERY deep and very impressive sounding. or maybe it's because my Husky sounds like a hyena..lol..

I loved it when Porter and Buster got their manly dog barks too. I am glad your pooch is scaring the neighbors now. My pyrenees knocked the mailman down and chased him down the sidewalk. He just wanted to give kisses, but I think the mailman has something against dog slobber.

LOL@ Hyena & mailman comments! LOL it seems Buster has competition with entertaining stories now

Thanks everyone!! I adore Kuma but I can admit her super friendliness was a little disappointing. I was really looking forward to the aloof guard dog I was supposed to get. Now I'm thinking she may have hope yet! I still don't regret socializing her a lot because everyone wants to pet her when we go out so it works on her behalf. But MAN is it good to hear her give a good solid bark that gives me heart a startle! It will be nice to get used to.

And ty & your welcome, Dogs rule! I think I can speak for everyone, we're always glad to see new members really contributing and jumping in on here.
I don't have very many dog lovers in my life so I need this place to balance me out & keep me in check.

Don't worry Lange..She'll become more aloof as she gets older.
