Ok people this is going to prove to be interesting...The couch king Seigi is almost a yr. and a half and since he's been 8 weeks old the only oustsiders that have been in my house are my landlords and for a very short amount of time.

Well my MIL who's elderly and not in the best health is coming here on Oct 8th-Oct 22nd so we can take her to our Dr and she can visit with my husband..Anyway,Seigi is a big people lover but since he doesn't get them often with the exception of my next door neighbors he gets super excited..I've made it clear to hubby that Seigi will not be banned from his spot on the couch since my MIL will be using the recliner and while he will be kept under control as far as his excitement he will not be banished to a seperate area of the house.My MIL is an animal lover all though she much prefers small breed dogs that don't shed the way Akita's do..She also doesn't care for dogs who get overly excited..She loved my last Akita Kujo because he was super calm and mellow but he was almost 6yr.s old..My Husky Nina who was only 2yr.s old she was not a fan of as Nina was extremely high strung and had tons of hair that shed all year round..She would show extreme favoritism towards Kujo while making it clear to Nina she wanted her nowhere near her.

So I told hubby that while I don't feel Seigi is going to be an issue as once a day or 2 has gone by he won't be so excited about her and he is very well behaved he is still going to require some playtime with us which is usually playing fetch with him inside the house and since he's in the middle of a coat blow there's going to be hair everywhere as usual.Even with everyday brushing and vaccuming you still have hair. I've made it clear that as much as I love my MIL if she has an issue with this it's to bad..This is our house as well as Seigi's and I'm not going to have his routine or living conditions changed because it irritates her. Fortunetly my husband agrees all though it might be because he doesn't want to deal with my rath lol..I'm not my MIL's favorite person (right Nattie? lol)however having been in geriatric nursing for 20yr.s I know how to deal with her but hubby is well aware that Seigi is not going to be made to adjust his life for her the way my Nina girl had to and that's not open for discussion!

I will admit I'm sort of looking forward to Seigi's reaction to having someone new in his house for two weeks and I cannot tell a lie I hope the way we shower him with attention and treat him as if he was our human child irritates her just a little..We couldn't do much about Nina girl because we were staying at my MIL's but it's a different ball game now!!

Yes, as you say, it will be "interesting". As you say, there really is nothing you can do about the hair. I can't imagine what it must be like to have hair like that. Manny is hairy but his hair stays put!

Can you hurry up and teach him to sit at the kitchen table and eat too? Maybe put a bib on him before he eats so he don't get his fur all dirty. (while his pretty fur is getting all over you MIL's clothes) As soon as she gets in, the first place she sits, tell her that's the dog's spot and if she doesn't want him sitting on her, she better move.

Cook something for him for dinner too. When she asks what you are having, tell her it's for the dog and you don't know what you guys are having for dinner yet.

BAHAHA!!!..I just love you Luna!!...My husband has refused to tell her how much Seigi weighs because he doesn't want to "freak" her out since she just doesn't understand "Why we got another Akita" so I "accidently" slipped the other day when I was giving her the flight information. He of course wasn't very pleased with me but that's nothing new lol..I can't wait until she has to watch my husband feed Seigi off his plate..I think I'll make a point of not giving him my pointless lecture about it when she's here..Wait till she sees hubby cooking an extra chicken breast for him or she has to pull a Seigi hair out of her coffee in the morning or him running into the kitchen and politely sit and wait for an ice cube when she's in the freezer and of course I'll be sure to inform her that he gets an ice cube when we do and he'll bug her until he gets it...I know she'll blow a gasket when I put half of a $2.00 can of Salmon in his food..

She should be thankful he has long hair she can pull out of her coffee cup instead of the little stubby ones Ojo has that stick into everything and are impossible to catch!

And why shouldn't he have an ice cube?

Her way of thinking is that dogs should not be allowed to have anything that is in the fridge because they'll think they're equal to us and it's gross to let them get their germs on the floor eating the ice an oh because it makes a mess...Yeah,it leaves a little bit of water on the floor..One of the first things she asked me when I told her he weighed 130lb's was if he had all of his shots..I should've told her no and that he had Rabies and parasites to and be sure you don't let him lick your face after he cleans himself!!

Exactly how I feel.This has been his home since he was 8 weeks old and he's earned the freedom he has here by being very well trained,obedient and loving and I refuse to adjust his living conditions or give him any less love and attention because of a visitor regardless of who they may be and that includes family members.

She doesn't care for me because she thinks I'm the reason hubby won't move back to Chicago and be near his kids which is the furthest thing from the truth..So since she knows that I'm the one who introduced him to the breed and made him the dog and Akita lover he is she tries to get back at me through my dogs..Which is pretty counter productive for what she's trying to accomplish..Hubby knows how much I love my Seigi and of course he does as well but he knows how intolerent I am about people who don't treat them right and how I won't stand for it in my house..Of course him putting my and Seigi's needs and happiness before hers or the rest of his family pisses her off to..

I promised him that I would be just as sweet,caring and loving to her as I always am but any negative behavior towards my fur kid is where the line will be drawn!

I'm so glad he see's that. I didn't have a great relationship with my MIL the first years..and it wasn't my fault! lol I was brought up to bite my tongue & be respectful of those who are older than you. ANyway, hubby also seen so I sooo feel you, Ree. Especially when it comes to our babies! Human and furry alike! I'm Still disappointed that you had to leave the area..would have been so cool to have you so close!

I'm very lucky to have such an awesome hubby..He knows that I'm very equipped to deal with the elderly and that I know his mother has been totally brainwashed in her thinking of my by his jealous daughters so I really don't let it get to me..However he rightly doesn't care what her reasoning is he doesn't tolerate any disrespect towards me..He remembers the great heartache we suffered when we had to have Kujo and Nina PTS and that making the decision to get another Akita was not an easy one...My MIL is not used to her son being in a relationship where he puts that persons happiness and needs before those of his family which in this case includes Seigi.She totally freaked when he told her we got Seigi and I think that's because she knew that meant he for sure wouldn't be going back there anytime soon as we will not go anywhere the fur kid is not welcomed..She also knew my husband got him for me and right there it started all over again..

Don't worry Lange I'm sure eventually they'll be some reason we have to go back and I'll be sure we see you before heading back home..Then Seigi and Kuma can finally have their playdate!
