My new yorkiepoo
Hey you guys! my name is Rachel I'm 27 years old and I reside in Alabama, I just joined this group and I wanted to say hello!
I also wanted a lil bit of bragging rights and say I just adopted a new puppy two days ago. I live with my mother (I'm a student in college majoring in Veterinary medicine, minoring in business management, I wanna open my own practice one day) and she has NOT wanted a dog. The last one I had was 7 years ago, he was a jack russell mix and unfortunately we took him to the beach, and he jumped out of the window of our car and I never saw him again. I was devastated. But for 5 years I had been asking my mom for a dog, and she kept saying no. FINALLY I brought a 8 week old black yorkiepoo home and my mom fell in love. He fits in the palm of your hand he is so adorable. I also have a 4 month old long haired tabby named Ambrose who we were a little worried about when it came to the new family member, but they became instant pals. I named him Dodger (From Oliver and Company the disney movie) and this is the first time my mom has actually fell in love with an animal almost instantaneously.
I am personally going to school at a community college getting my generals done, and then going to Auburn University afterwards (I have a scholarship) for Vet medicine.
I'm really happy with this dog so far, the only drawback to him is it's gonna be a bit difficult to paper train him. He also has a problem with abandonment, as I am typing this right now, Dodger is sleeping in my arms. If I put him down he will start crying, so I need to break him from that....Either way it will happen I have patience, and I know he's a smart dog. He's also uber cute and once I get a better camera, Im seriously going to take some pictures.
P.S. I took him to petsmart today, tried on some lil halloween costumes, he was so adorable, it's between the tiger costume or the lil jester hat with the bells at the end lol.

Welcome to the Forum!
Hi--Hope you like the forum. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun with your new puppy! And I like your choice of being a vet.
I am sure you will have some interesting stories to tell about your adventures with Dodger.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"
