Buster and Porter look so content with each other. Like best friends
If it's not being to forward, may I ask why they were seperated in the first place?

They weren't separated purposefully. Porter wouldn't keep his furry ass at home no matter what we did and ended up jumping through our daughter's bedroom window to get out. We tried to find him a nice place with lots of acres to roam and we thought we did. The lady claimed to be a nice "christian" lady. We took Porter there and toured the property. It looked nice to us. She had another dog for Porter to play with. I thought everything would be great. We wanted a place where we could go and visit Porter once a month. W e stressed that if for any reason she couldn't keep Porter she was to call us and we would come and pick him up. We both agreed to a two week trial. I gave her all of Porter's toys and treats and food dish. I called later that night to see if Porter was ok. She said everything was fine. Before the two weeks was up, she gave Porter to a truck driver. My mother heard about it and called me. Then she went over there. The truck driver brought Porter back while my mom was there. Porter chewed up the inside of his cab. I went and picked up Porter the very next day. That lady had a shock collar on him. She misused the shock collar and made him terrified to go out in the yard. She also didn't give Porter none of his toys, treats, or anything else I put in the box. She said she didn't want any reminders of me laying about. I have no nice words to say about that heartless lady. I hope she rots in hell.

That is so frightening - that you could go to all that trouble and be led to believe he had a great home. Poor dog - I really hope things work out for you all now.

I hope so too. He no longer tries to get out, but he goes in the house now because he's scared to go out in the yard.

I'm so sorry to hear all of this. How anyone can mistreat an animal is beyond me. Hopefully Buster and Mr. Sweaters will bring Porter back to his old self.(without the part that wants to escape all the time)

I hope so too. Porter also came back with a staff infection. The vet said it was from living in unsanitary conditions. He said it could take up to 3 months of treatment to get rid of it. Porter's on antibiotics and I have to bring him to the vet once a week to see if he needs to continue medication.

He's thrown up twice. The vet said to give him some Maalox to calm his stomach.

I'm not surprised..It's pretty strong..You can give him Pepto to all though most dogs can't stand the taste of it.

What a !!!,,,,, Even after all that she couldn't at the very least stick to bringing him back to you? Without a doubt she has something to hide. Poor Porter I hope his staph goes away quickly. So amazing and glad your mom heard what she did!! Hugs to Porter

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Any solutions to get him to go out in the yard again? You can tell he truly terrified to go out in the yard now.

I got Porter to poo outside, but I had to tie him the clothesline and wait for him to go. As soon as he went, I brought him back in. Now I hope eventually he will understand that my yard won't zap him and he will be able to go out on his own.

(They look sooo adorable together. I love it! <3)
Have you tried taking him out on leash? He might feel more secure. It sounds weird but Wrigley is more self assured & less anxious on leash. For whatever reason he stops worrying and just goes into "follow" mode & calms down.
If that doesn't work you can try taking him around the block a few times and then bring him into the yard directly from the street and continue walking him around the yard. Just leave the gate open to come in, that way you won't need to stop& pause in coming in. You want it to be a continuous motion of quick paced walking. The less he has time to think, the better. I would hope with time he'll revert to feeling safe there again. I can't believe that lady messed him up so bad.
I would think it's going to be a matter of getting him to shut off his brain and just go through the motions of walking the yard until it becomes ordinary again OR finding the pay off that is stronger than his fear in order to snap him out of it.
