There's other breeds I want too...probably a whole lot of them! lol Usually because I think they're adorable or gorgeous but I wouldn't get one either. I'm better off admiring those from the side lines.

Novice question: What's a rare color for the Akita? Is it true that they have the same temperament as a Chow does?

A "rare" color for an akita would normally be a color that isn't in breed standards. People who breed dogs and advertise a "rare" color is only in it for the money and do not care about breeding quality puppies. Back yard breeders is another name for it. Someone who is selling a rare color dog is only trying to sell a dog who's color is against breed standards for an outrageous price. A reputable breeder wouldn't breed any dogs to get rare colors. They breed to maintain a standard and to ensure the health and quality of the pooch.

Luna is exactly right..There is no "rare" color where Akita's are concerned..the only thing that you may not see a whole lot of as far as colors is solid colors..Such as the solid whites..however they're by far not considered rare..As for having similar traits as the Chows they have a few things in common such as not having a great liking for people they don't know and not always liking children, as well as being stubborn and not a dog for an inexperienced or first time owner...Other then that they are very different in personality.

I've seen a lot of chows around but I rarely seen Akitas in my area. I wish I could find and get to meet one soon.
