Just gorgeous! I think you mean the pinto one right? I love them too.
So does this mean you're going to join Akita world next? Too bad Chile is so far away.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

There is this dude that lives in Chile that breeds these gorgeous pooches. He has them shipped from the United STates to breed them. So getting a pup wouldn't be so bad. He has his dog's pedigree posted for people who want to contact his breeder to buy pups in the US.
Pinto, that's what they call the coat with lots of white? For saint bernards it's called splash coat.
I love the smokey gray color too.
But I am scared to get an akita. My brother had one that tried to attack everyone that walked in his house. He even bit a few people. That dog hated me too. One day when my brother went to work, his akita chewed a hole through the wall and into his neighbor's apartment and killed his neighbor's dogs. He had to be put to sleep. I know all akitas aren't like that, but I don't know that I am a proper owner for an akita. My brother certainly wasn't.
But these akitas are so pretty!!!

Yes,they're called Pinto's...It sounds like your brothers Akita was a combo of bad breeding and not enough proper socialization...St.Bernards are such a different type of personality I don't know how good that would turn out...You would definitely have to get one that was a puppy so you could help mold his personality..
I'm a bg fan of the grey ones to..Seigi was actually really grey when we got him but as you can see he didn't stay that way..I think it's mainly because his dad was a solid white.

Pinto's are very common and prices can very anywhere from a few 100 to over $1,000..It depends on the breeder, the quality of the pup and the bloodlines the pup comes from..The more ethical and responsible the breeder is the more money they will have sepnt on genetic testing and the better the bloodlines will be..Therefore you'll may alot more..it's certainly worth it though if you want a puppy whose not only genetically sound but has a sound temperament as well!

Yeah, Kuma was the only non pinto in her litter. The one's with true solid color seem to be the more rare one's. Personally, I like them all!! I wish I could get one of each before I die. HAHA

I've been told by a couple people that Kuma was the only Akita they've ever met who was friendly. I'm guessing it's part genetics & part how she was brought up, like Ree said. I don't think she'd bite a PERSON unless she felt there was a real threat. But I'd hope she wouldn't do serious damage because of her bite inhibition. I think the hardest of all the things w/akitas is when it comes to other animals. Even good breeding doesn't always take away the dog dominance so it's hit & miss from what I've learned. I'd still like to add another to our family sometime but it'd definitely be a male.

You're very right about it being hit or miss Lange..Seigi has the absolute best temperament and is probably one of the friendliest Akita's I've ever had even out of the ones I've bred..However,I have no doubt that if someone broke into my house he would attack before I had a chance to shoot the intruder...he is however very, very good at determining when he just needs to give a warning bark or growl or if it's a possible bite situation..Last night he heard something and was barking like crazy...When he does that he insists on me or hubby following him to where he heard the sound and checking it out..
As far as getting another Akita you're dead on about getting one of the opposite sex..As you know they tend to be same sex aggressive and the females seem to be a lot worse about it..I can't tell you the numerous fights I had to break up with my girls..In fact they would go so far as to gang up on my males at feeding time and the males would back down..We want another one to when my breeder has another litter and it will for sure be a female...It's precisely this reason that Akita's should never be trained to attack..They are so aware of when it needs to be done naturally that to train them to attack is to create a killing machine..I had a friend who was a K-9 cop in NYC and his dog was an Akita...he told me never again!!..He said trying to call him off a perp was close to impossible and they were to much of a liability for the Dept...You can have an Akita that has the most sound temperament an is friendly as they can be but their ability to bite when themselves or their family should never, ever be underestimated!

I'm jealous..I've never heard an Akita growl. lol Not that I really want to but I just want to hear it. You'll have to send me an audio if you can ever get it on tape. LOL!
It's funny I learned a lot about Akita's before getting Kuma but it wasn't until I had one that I was like, "Wow, I understand now." Even as puppies, they are different. It was like she was an old dog in a puppy body. They are not super playful and they observe a lot. They think more than just react even when little.
The focus & determination once they are set in their way is crazy. I can see why even a police trained K-9 officer wouldn't be able to call of his Akita when it's already attacking. It is their sole existence to deal with a problem once it's theirs, and it's not up to you anymore at that moment. Like they may not over react to things but once they react it's done which is the biggest difference when it comes to GSD in that sense, I think.
I've never had a dog with separation anxiety, Kuma doesn't have it either but instead she has presence anxiety?... What I mean is if we're around and we keep her away she HATES it. She has to know what is going on even if just to watch. It's not us not being around that bothers her, its actually her not being around to know what is going on, that she doesn't like.. When I leave completely she is fine. But if she's just closed off or in the house when we're out in the yard, or can't see the visitors at the door from the kitchen, ect...that's what bothers her. She just needs to 'watch'. Too funny...
Thanks for the reassurance on the (hopefully) later addition. Wrigley isn't dominate at all so I don't think there'll be issues that he'll contribute to so bringing in a male pup should be the best bet for us. Somehow I think Kuma will ultimately be throwing her weight around with both males so hopefully she'll only help with that. I also think it helps that Wrigley was here first.

You're very right about the presence anxiety..Seigi is the exact same way!..That comes from their natural instinct to guard and they feel if they can't see us they can't protect us..Seigi follows me absolutely everywhere..He even lays in the kitchen when I do the dishes!

I don't think so. There are hundreds of dog breeds out there more suitable for me than an akita. I think they are called shelter mutts and saint bernards.
They are adorable though!!!
My brother (the one that had the akita) is getting a shiba inu. I hope he learns how to handle his dog better.
