Still searching for a perfect dog
Still havent found a dog. (
I recently got a great job, but I will be travelling a lot and because I will be away from home, family and friends i am planning to adopt a dog to be on a road with me.
I have a hard time finding a dog that will be perfect for me, so thats why im asking so many questions.
What im looking for in a dog is:
- being able to move from place to place ( like 2 countries in a month )
- possibly big
- an athletic dog that love to play and be active, friendly to other animals
And another thing that I would like to know - are there any limits on how far can dogs travel? And where do they travel? Are they with you or in a cage? Thats the first thing I should check before I start searching for a companion.
Thank you all and I hope soon I find a new BFF.

Is there any way you can hold off on getting a dog until you stop moving around? How many years are you planning on moving around? Maybe you can get a ferret instead if you want a companion to take with you when you travel. I do know truck drivers that have dogs, but the cab of the truck is their home most of the time so it's not like the dog has to move every few months. When you move, will you be driving or flying? A plane ticket for a dog costs that same as for a human. When we have our dogs in the car, we don't cage them. They are quite content to lay on the seat. If your dog is riding on a plane, he needs to be in a crate. But I would suggest finding your forever home first before trying to give a dog a forever home.

The above poster said he was looking for a big dog. Yorkie doesn't fit the description.

I'm a bit biased, but if he's dead set on getting a dog, he should get a saint bernard.

I got the impression that TanjaBelieve is a female. Anyway, are they even a trucker? I thought they were planning on flying to the different countries..lol who knows...
As for entering countries with dogs, yes you need to verify what the requirements are for your dog to enter a new country. It sounds like you're jumping the gun on getting a dog. Why not feel out your new job first. See what the requirements are in your mode of transport and whether the places you will be staying at would even allow a dog. If you work and have to leave the dog alone, where would you plan on leaving it? It sounds a bit chaotic unless you are a trucker. Otherwise, I don't know how you would do it moving around so much...

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

I went to Russia once and I took my chihuahua with me. The US almost didn't let me bring my dog back in the country even though I had all of my paperwork. I had proof that the chihuahua was from the US and they tried to say I was importing him.
