I just tell mine to shut up. They only bark if there's strange people around, or squirrels, or rabbits, or each other, or the trees, and sometimes the ants...

That's one of the things I love about Akita's the most..They don't bark unless they feel it's absolutely necessary so if they do you know you had better go check it out!

My great pyrenees is like that. When he barks, it's worth checking out.

AHAHA! LOL Actually I read that some dogs who aren't predisposed to bark might start up more if they are influenced by a yappier dog. Kuma never made a peep as a pup. Now on a scale of 1-10 she's like a 4 or 5. But she only barks when she thinks she should...unfortunately she's not always as indiscriminate as I know she should be! LOL AGGGHH WRIGLEY!!!! What's Seigi on a scale 1-10?....just humor me?

Funny thing is kuma never barks in the house tho..even when the doorbell rings..she gets on stalker alert.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Honestly I would have to say a 1..He only barks if someone comes to the door or someone walks by the house when he's outside.

If Buster is outside, he doesn't bark, he just runs that person over.

There are times when I wished I had charged the camcorder. Buster knocked down a skinny little black guy on the sidewalk out front when he went out with Ryan. I could hear that dude screaming all the way around back and I ran to look and there was Buster sitting on top of the dude licking his face. After the dude figured out that Buster wasn't going to hurt him, he was ok. He said where he came from, if a dog ran after you, that was a bad thing. Buster was only 6 months old then, but he was pretty big. I can imagine what a person would think when a dog that size runs them over.
