how hachi beat parvo
I would like to share this story for others who are going through the same thing and so say some dogs can beat parvovirus. Saturday morning we stayed out and family looked after hachi. Hachi is our 9 month old white American akita. Sunday morning when we came home we noticed hachi wasn't happy to see us. Infact he didnt budge. So we thought that was strange. During the course of the day he did nothing but sleep, he refused his usual Sunday dinner, his ears were down, his tail was down. He looked so sad. He started to have severe diarrhea which appeared to gush out as water. He had severe green vomit and at night he refused his rice + beef dinner. We thought maybe he ate something or just had an upset tummy. At that point we had never heard of parvovirus. Monday morning we booked him in for an apt at the vets. The earliest they could do was half 3. Again he looked depressed was sleeping constantly, vomiting , having severe diarrhea + refusing any food or water. We could tell he was really dehydrated and starting to lose weight. After we took him to vets they said they were gonna keep him in over night and do some tests. Then came the dreaded phonecall...parvo! I looked it up to find how horrible and devastating the disease can be. It attacks the intestine and white blood cells which causes severe diarrhea, sickness which results in severe dehydration and even death. He was so week before we took him to the vets that he collapsed to the floor and had to carry him the rest of the way. We rand the vet through the night for updates they but him on iv fluids and gave him antibiotics to help. But the main thing they wanted to do was keep him hydrated. Parvo cant be cured the body had to fight it off itself. The only thing to prevent parvo is vaccination. However it doesn't guarantee 100 percent immunity because hachi had all of his vaccines yet still caught it. They say parvo is caught through stools + vomit of canines. Also can live upto 2 years in the right conditions so bleach your home + garden its the only way to kill it. The first night hachi had been admitted he continued to vomit and diarrhea. He wasnt well atall love him. Tuesday we came down to see him, he was even more thin he vomited a big puddle of water and saliva and diarrhea was seeping out. I dont think he even realised it. The smell was putrid, I could smell death on him. They said they were keeping him in again on iv fluid with certain stuff to keep his levels up from not eating. That night we rang again for updates, he vomited froth and had a lot of diarrhea. I didnt think he was going to make it. Wednesday they said he seemed a little brighter, still vomiting but no diarrhea. Thursday was a bad day, he vomited everytime he moved and had a lot of bloody diarrhea. I thought we were gonna lose him and broke my heart! We rang Friday morning for updates they said he hadn't had anymore diarrhea or sickness through the night and had kept food and water down for a few hours. That day they weened him off the iv fluids and told us he could come home tonight. They gave us a bottle of stomach liner to line his tummy to absorb nutrients from food and water, they gave us ant acid tablets to prevent acid build up, 60mg antibiotics for his secondary infection, anti sickness fluid and special gastrointestinal paste for his food. That night we gave medication at the correct time and woke up every 2 hrs to feed him and make sure he drinks water. Sat we took him down for a checkup they said he was ok. That day we brought up a slice of ham for hachi omg poor bugga must of been starving he went mental. But was only aloud to feed him a few tea spoons of special food every now and then. Today is Tuesday, he's much better he's happy running around and back to his old self. He eats a lot more now and is starting to put on weight. Vet said he was good today and said once the medication is gone he needs no more. He is sprawled out on his fluffy rug at the moment. He looks and is so much better. In ten.days were aloud to walk him again. So hachi is on the mend. Other dogs can beat parvo too. But depends on breed, age of dog, how early was caught, how good their immune system is etc..I'm happy my dog beat parvo. I feel so lucky to have him hes my best friend. I hope thos story helps or inspires other people who have dealt or going through the horrible experience of parvovirus.
Sorry if my spelling/grammer maybe slightly rubbish, hard to use this touch screen phone

I am so glad your story has a happy ending. Has your vet warned you against getting another dog or allowing another dog in your garden? The virus can remain in the soil for 18 months. Here in the UK it is normal for pups to be vaccinated against Parvo but even then it is not fail safe and I have heard several horror stories about dogs suffering from the disease, not all of them have been as lucky as Hachi.

Super good news! It also helps give hope to those who may face the same problem. Ironically, I read somewhere that someone gave their dog pumpkin (canned) when it had Parvo and they felt it helped save their dogs life. Ironically, we've been talking about Pumpkin on here for quite a bit...well those of us who are on the pumpkin bandwagon. Maybe someone reading this in a similar situation can give it a try..when one of our babies are that sickly I think we won't stop at much to get some hope...
And again...so GOOD for your Hachi!! How scary that must have been for you all.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"
